UBports Foundation released a new version of their UBports Installer for the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system that makes it easier to turn your OnePlus 2 smartphone into a versatile Linux phone.
Besides working on the Ubuntu Touch mobile OS, which was discontinued by Canonical a few years ago, UBports Foundation also works on other cool things to make it easier for users to migrate to a Linux phone from Android or iOS. One of these is the UBports Installer or the official Ubuntu Touch Installer, which lets you install Ubuntu Touch on any of the supported devices without minimal effort. The best part is that you don’t even need Linux to use the Ubuntu Touch Installer since it works on macOS and Windows computers too. The latest version of the UBports Installer (0.7.4-beta) brings some interesting changes, starting with support for the OnePlus 2 smartphone. OnePlus 2 was already supported by Ubuntu Touch, but with the latest UBports Installer release it’s now a lot easier to install the mobile OS and turn the device into a modern Linux phone.
In addition to supporting the OnePlus 2 smartphone, the new UBports Installer also improves support for the OnePlus 3, Nexus 5,and Sony Xperia XZ phones, improves the process of re-connecting to offline and unauthorized devices if the cable is unreliable, and makes it more clear for users to enable OEM unlocking. Of course, several bugs were squashed as well in this release and you can find more details on the GitHub announcement page, from where you can also download the latest Ubuntu Touch Installer. Meanwhile, if you’re already using Ubuntu Touch on your smartphone or tablet, don’t forget to update it to the most recent software version, Ubuntu Touch OTA-14.
