  • This was an advertisement, not a documentary. I did not come here to hear about how great the country is. I came here to learn about the country's history, economy, and politics, among other things.

    Edit: After reading an honest source on the political environment of this country, I have learned that the Maldives has a nasty history of political instability, human rights abuse, corruption, and crackdowns on political dissidence. Hardly surprising, to be honest. I had a hunch that this video was sending a message too good to be true. This video willingly omits all that information in order to paint a rosy picture of a beautiful and flourishing tropical paradise with no problems, just to make tourists feel good about going to that country for vacation. This proves my point: this is an advertisement, not a documentary. Do not watch this video if you are actually looking to learn about the country. It is a shame that they call this video a "documentary" in order to deceive you, the viewer, into believing their picturesque narrative.

    I would not be surprised if this comment got taken down, either.
