Cristo Rey St. Viator College Preparatory High School (CRSV) Class of 2023 Commencement Ceremony

NORTH LAS VEGAS (May 30, 2023) – Cristo Rey St. Viator College Preparatory High School (CRSV) held its inaugural Commencement Ceremony on May 20th at the Las Vegas Convention Center, celebrating its first 56 graduates with more than 750 guests in attendance. Speakers included Fr. Thomas von Behren, C.S.V, School President; Cisco Aguilar, Nevada’s Secretary of State and Cristo Rey St. Viator’s Board of Trustees Chair; and Valedictorian Anthony S.

As Founding President, Fr. von Behren delivered heartfelt remarks to the graduates, families and guests. “In celebrating the graduation of our inaugural class, we not only celebrate 56 young men and women who have
reached a milestone in their own academic journeys, we also celebrate promise for students who are often overlooked and underserved in our community,” he reflected. “Quality education, offered in a safe and
supportive setting, is a right for everyone. Cristo Rey St. Viator celebrated that right when our first graduates received their diplomas – what a momentous occasion and commitment to the future.”

Featured speaker Aguilar shared an inspirational message, telling stories from the school’s beginnings and early days. “Building Cristo Rey St. Viator was a dream of mine 20 years ago, and celebrating the inaugural class was literally a dream come true,” he said. “Thank you to everyone who has pushed our students forward and supported them every step along the way. The school can create generational change for families, and this graduating class shows the example.”

Anthony S., a National Merit Scholar who will attend Stanford University as a pre-med major, shared his thoughts about the historic occasion and the experimental spirit of his classmates and their families who enrolled in the school during its first year and started classes offsite for the first few weeks as construction was being finalized.

All CRSV graduates were accepted into four-year colleges and universities, with more than $11 million in scholarships awarded. Acceptances included more than 49 schools across 20 states and in three countries. The school opened its doors in the fall of 2019 with a resilient class of founding students who persevered despite the challenges of the pandemic which dramatically changed their high school experience.
