Yikes… this video didn't age well! Skiff was just acquired by Notion and will be shutting down in 12 months. Skiff update here: https://youtube.com/live/Ok3wGkDwV7A
Jeez, Skiff have now shutdown (10th Feb 2024)
Does anyone know any email alternative from companies that don't collaborate directly with Israeli security, or that pay taxes elsewhere? I'm trying to participate in BDS and this part is really hard, specially because I lack the technical knowledge to discern exactly how tech companies are involved. I don't mind if certain parts or protocols were developed there, as long as they don't get revenue or help with the cyberpunk-like suppression of liberty in the West Bank.
Is Tuta okay?
Skiff is dead ,how about making a video about your thoughts ?
I was a paying skiff customer for 7 months ,now I have to move everything …It came out of nowhere too
Skiff is now dead, yay time to spend 12 hours moving all my emails across, god I hate it!
What a bummer. Skiff is no more! I don't suppose you can argue with 60mil. I guess its back to proton
Great stuff
With skiff joining Notion in 6 months, with a planned phased out
What to you suggest next
Thanks for all this great info
at the end of the day, it all comes down to trusting your provider. great free plan with skiff while startmail paid account shines at unlimited disposable aliases.
i think skiff uses electronjs in the desktop app. that means it uses googles chromium. if someone is talking about privacy that's fanny
Maybe you could review purelymail and polarismail. They are not encrypted, but they are really cheap.
Tuta is a super woke German company. I just cancel and moved to skiff.
Skiff doesn't let you nest labels or folders so I gave up on it.
I've said it before gentlemen but here is the truth: Email protocols are not secure by default and they never will be. Even encrypted ones are still vulnerable if the company decides to track what you are saying, and they are only really 'secure' if you send it to another person using the same service. If you are trying to truly be private, email services are not an option no matter how 'secure' it is, or claims to be.
On a side note, running your own mail server doesn't fix these issues. Email as a protocol isn't meant to be private and is very vulnerable and old. If you are looking for something truly private, stick with Signal or PGP messages.
i dont believe in their encryption. everything is more or less backdoored. i use skiff because im too lazy to run my own mail server, and skiff lets u use custom domains
