A First Look At Garuda Linux KDE "Dr4Gonized"

Recently I have been getting a lot of requests from viewers of the channel to take a look at a Linux distribution that I had never heard about–Garuda Linux. This is yet another Arch-based distro but it does some different things. Most notable is that it uses the Zen kernel and seems to be optimized for gamers.

Hey DistroTube, thanks for that great review, appreciate it! You got me started on fish lately so it had to be included in this version.. and btw, missing applications can easily be installed via the setup assistant 😀

I guess I’m not seeing what other people are seeing when I look at the aesthetic of this distro. I find it annoyingly cartoonish and not appealing in the least.

Garuda Linux KDE is unstable. It is fun to learn another distro such as Garuda — but, it's unstable. I've tried to load it several times — 1/2 dozen, and even after it was installed…..it has frozen up during heavy work load of gaming and when moving windows it comes lose and disappears….then freezes. Totally not happy with this version. I do like the colorful way it looks — but, that color is a troublesome thing! Maybe another year of fixes will bring about a great distro!

This really smells like PCLinuxOS. Literally uses the exact same theme and icon pack.

Make sure to try KWin on KDE to get the benefits of window managers and desktop environments in one

I tried it on VirtualBox, I had some problems, so I installed it on my Dell desktop that Amazon sold me with an illegal Windows 10 Pro, I found out by fiddling with BIOS settings.

I really love when dt makes a joke and doesn't even change his tone, it almost makes it sound like he is being serious. It makes it that much more funnier tbh, reminds a little bit of Anxiety War, that guy sometimes does stuff like this.

Looks like it saves me a bit of work. I have an almost identical desktop on arch using latte dock and candy-icons. Next time I need to install arch I’ll give it a whirl, might have to replace this hunk soon (i5-760).

Thanks for the video – just fyi – Virtualbox is no longer considered open source and does not meet the definition of free software as per the FS foundation. Plus Oracle is infamous for lack of transparency in disclosing security bugs ( ex. 0day vulnerability – took them 4 years after learning about it to patch and disclose it ).. I switched to kvm/libvirtd and have not looked back. Performance is much better and once setup much easier to use.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of Arch if everything already comes installed?
