Cloud Hypervisor and Kata Containers: A path towards modern virtualization

Special thanks to our 2020 Open Infrastructure Summit sponsors for making the event possible: Canonical (Ubuntu), Huawei, VEXXHOST, Cisco, Tencent Cloud, InMotion Hosting, Mirantis, Red Hat, Trilio, VanillaStack.io, and ZTE!

This presentation covers the new integration for Kata Containers and Cloud Hypervisor. With Kata Containers, each container is hypervisor isolated(using technologies like Qemu Firecracker or Cloud Hypervisor). Kata can seamlessly work with different Container technologies (Docker, Containerd, Kubernetes, CRI-O, Podman). Cloud Hypervisor is a new Virtual Machine Monitor (VMM) based on the rust-vmm project.  We will talk about the details of how both projects integrate to become a solution for running modern cloud workloads.

On this talk we will focus on:
* What are Kata Containers and Cloud Hypervisor?

* How Kata and Cloud Hypervisor integrate?
* Overview of modern virtualization technologies used by Kata (virtiofsd, vsock, rust-vmm, VFIO, etc).
* Current integration status, supported use cases.
