I liked the flags in the letter. Keep up.

My take on Richard Stallman is: I think he did some very unfortunate comments for sure, some of the things he said is not OK. However, I have been in the Linux community for a very long time and like you said he is that kind of person that speak his mind without thinking so much about the consequences and sometimes it can turn out bad. He is not a bad person, I have personally picked him up at the airport and drove with him to a conference where he would be speaking. He was a nice guy, very different from what you see online actually.

His contributions to the tech world can't be measured, Emacs, gcc, gnu/linux just to name a few things, software he created years back I still use to this day, and what he created inspired me to have a (25+ years) software engineering career, he is definitely one of my programming heroes. A lot of people in the tech community have a job put food on their table thanks to RMS.

I saw the FSF thread on twitter and there were a lot of people I follow and I can tell that most of them are hipsters using their fucking expensive macbooks, full of malware and proprietary shit, and they are that kind of people that get offended when someone say "hi, guys!" or the name of the branch on GitHub is "master". They don't do anything for Free software or the open source community and still they think they have something to say on that.

I truly believe that he deserves a second change, he can't be cancelled from his life's work like that. And to be honest this is what a bunch of shitty corporations and other "free" software groups want.

Gnome should be cancelled. It's leaders are absolute trash. Totally sexist, racist, and really illogical and stupid SJWs who are pushing political ideologies instead of trying to foster great free software foundation that creates the best possible software for all. Code of Conducts are absolutely harmful for open source projects, but when those are racist and sexist CoCs, then we truly have a problem. Gnome requiring systemd is also really bad thing.
Thus CANCEL THE WHOLE GNOME LEADERSHIP!

Richard Stallman's opinions have been absolutely correct. People really don't know the level of dystopia we live already that could have been solved at least partially with Free Software.

Stallman's takes are not NEARLY as crazy as people think. Most come down to how words are interpreted. Almost no one really has thought about the issues where RMS had his scandalous comments. I certainly want to protect kids as much as possible, and get predators to electric chair. But I still don't think his takes are that bad. He was idiot by saying them, at least from the point of being free software evangelist. But if anyone actually thinks RMS supports harm to children or people in general, they are mislead with their beliefs.

At 00:5801:02, how did you do that? I was listening to this video and doing some work on other window and at this point, I had to check the video to see who was speaking.

    Most of accusations are proofless!
They just want to have fsf money and replace free software with software that will be given based on personal agendas! They can burn in hell!

This is another case of economic interest trying to turn the board tray. But now large technology coorporations are getting more aggressive to control free software. It is the market pushing the crisis. It would be interesting to know who $$ is behind it. Microsoft? ->? -> IBM? -> Red Hat?

The letter against him is pure speculation. It makes dubious claims, and the supporting evidence is insufficient. There may indeed be a case against Stallman being in certain positions of power/influence, but that letter is a disgrace and I hope that legal action is brought against it. Unfortunately, the nuanced view I have isn't supported by either of the open letters.

All their doing is turning Linux on its self now. Stallman created a great thing, but he's mouth has also destroyed he creation. If you ask me the whole Linux foundation is now under threat.

There seems to be confusion within this community, so let me make some things clear.
Just bc he faces backlash, that doesn't mean RMS doesn't have freedom of speech. He can say whatever he wants to say. BUT, that also means there is consequences to that speech. There are things that can only be said in appropriate situations, and there are some things that just shouldn't be said if you have any social awareness you'd know that. Even yourself Brodie you have said that a lot of the things RMS says are outright weird and unnecessary to share. It absolutely is logical that he faces backlash. He makes controversial, POLITICAL statements related to Epstein's actions, and you expect people not to be outraged. He's the one who made it political by starting that dialogue and he unleashed a can of worms even he would later regret.

While I disagree, his beliefs on the age of consent are based on his desire to be "ideologically consistent". He believes that sexual degeneracy like fetishes, bestiality, same sex marriage, etc. should all be legal and tolerated, and I guess he "has" to defend pedophilia in order to be "consistent". To put it in other words, RSM's views on sexuality are the bottom of the slippery slope. Like you have the top which is evangelical christian conservatives, and you have the bottom, which is RSM.

And to be perfectly fair, RSM's believes regarding sex are exactly what many people (particularly leftists) actually think, but unlike the average leftist, RSM isn't afraid to actually say it.

Imagine what science would look like if there would be the same behavior.

We should exclude zealots from the FOSS community and boycott Redhat. The damage they do by removing capable people like RMS or Linus far outweighs their contribution.

I don't understand why Richard Stallmann gets punished for expressing his opinion and discussing what he likes and don't like. Isn't Free Speech human right? People asking for his removal based on what he said is in principle against human Free Speech and that is very dangerous.

The only plausible explanation I have for the original open letter is that they're capitalists disguised as progressives. Some of their claims don't even make sense. In fact I questioned their statement on RMS being transphobic, they agreed the evidence they gave didn't align with the transphobia they were claiming but argued 'too many people have signed this, so we can't make any changes now'. They know it's in their best interest to remove Stallman and don't care if their supposed reasons make sense or not as long as they can get popular support. This is all without considering the conflicts of interest regarding the whole situation.

9:55 With the amount of newspeak I hear/read online I'd like them to define those terms.
misogyny, racism, bigotry, defamation, intimidation, "unfair" attack on free thought and speech.
    P.S.
Don't both misogyny and racism already fall under bigotry?
What is a fair attack and what is an unfair attack on free thought and speech?

Well, first I was glad RMS returned, because he is a legend. But watching this video from someone who actually worked with him, changed my mind. Not so far, that I support the petition against him, but know I can understand the other side a little bit better…
