About this video: If you want to know how to make a Paper Minecraft server in 1.17, this is the video for you! We show you exactly how to create your own Minecraft Paper server for 1.17. Why would you want to setup a PaperMC server? Well, Paper will unlock a lot of different options for your Minecraft server.
One benefit of a Paper Minecraft server is that you will have a lot less lag. Paper tries everything it can to make Minecraft servers more efficient and reduce lag on your server. Minecraft Paper servers can also use plugins in Minecraft 1.17. We have a dedicated video on this, but it is one of the benefits of a Paper server over a vanilla server.
Nevertheless, let’s move on to how to start a Paper 1.17 server! The first step of getting your Paper Minecraft server is downloading the Paper server file. You can find a link to Paper’s download in the description above. That will actually take you to our text tutorial for making a Paper server in 1.17. Scroll down here and click the yellow ‘Download Paper’ button. That will take you to the official Paper download page. Here, you will want to click the version number download button next to the latest version of Paper. That will start downloading Paper 1.17. You will need to keep or save the file depending on your browser.
After the PaperMC server file is downloaded, we can actually move on to sheeting up your Minecraft Paper server. To begin doing this, create a new folder on your desktop called ‘Paper Server 1.17’. Drag-and-drop the Paper file you downloaded into this folder. Then, right-click and create a new text document. Open that text document and copy-and-paste the run.bat code from the description above into this text document. When you have done this, click File, and save as. Name the file ‘run.bat’, and change save type as to ‘All Files’. Finally save this file.
You now need to rename the Paper jar file you downloaded to simple ‘paper.jar’. Finally, double click the run.bat file. This will generate your eula.txt file. Open that and change EULA=false to EULA=true. Save the file and double click the run.bat again. Your Paper Minecraft server has now been created!
You can join your Minecraft Paper server using your IPv4 address. To do this, open up the CMD and type ‘ipconfig’. This will give you a bunch of numbers. Write down the IPv4 address and your default gateway. The IPv4 address is how you will join your Paper server. The default gateway is how you will access your router for port forwarding.
Speaking of port forwarding, if you do want to play with your friends on your Paper Minecraft server, you will need to forward port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocol.
