UBUNTU ch 5 Nicoletta

This chapter of the larger film UBUNTU, features the performance artist, Nicoletta Darita De La Brown. She is a shaman, and a panamanian.
This film is about acknowledging the history all around us and cleansing spaces which are charged with previous events. The site that Nicoletta cleansed is a confederate monument pedestal. In the tumultuous times of 2019-2020, the last two years of the Trump presidency, many US cities saw its residents pulling down monuments to previous leaders of the confederacy. Baltimore was no different so Governor Hogan preemptively took down this monument of Judge Taney. Taney was the judge who had presided over the Dred Scott case. He was the reason that Dred Scott remained a slave instead of winning his freedom.
