20 Things You MUST DO After Installing Zorin OS 17 (Right Now!)

Commands and Links:

Update & Upgrade:
sudo apt update; sudo apt upgrade

Install Favorite Apps:
sudo apt install vlc gimp gparted 0ad

Install Ubuntu Restricted Extras (Media Codecs):
sudo apt install ubuntu-restricted-extras

Install Timeshift Backup Tool:
sudo apt install timeshift

Install Preload:
sudo apt install preload

Improve Laptop Battery:
sudo apt install tlp
Just run the above command and you don’t need to do anything else. It’ll make your laptop battery last longer by implementing some power-saving protocols.

Firefox Tweaks:
about:config
layers.acceleration.force-enabled
gfx.webrender.all

Change DNS:
8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4

Bleachbit:
sudo apt install bleachbit

  • Hi. Are there any updates to how Preload is installed for Zorin OS 17.1?

  • Very helpful indeed – thanks! Although Zorin 17 already comes loaded with Steam and Wine, so it's no longer necessary to add them. One think I use and enjoy more than ever is nala, in place of apt, it's far superior, quicker and looks great, giving the information in a more detailed and colourful way. It can also search for your fastest mirrors and you choose to save however many you want. That's usually 3 or 4, depending on the speed shown.

  • Right click menu does not work we can not make new folder name rename copy past all copy move new file

  • Could you make the same video content guide but without using Linux Terminal command? I mean like a 'Zorin OS to dummies'. I have been using Microsoft since 90's from MS-DOS 2.0 and tasted every Windows version to its current one. I am familiar with every MS-DOS command but totally dummy to Linux. I don't even know how to open the Terminal window. I know there are some action which require Linux Terminal, please separate them to for 'Advanced Lessons' content later. the reason I chose Zorin rather than other distro is I want use Linux but don't want to learn Linux terminal commands at all.

  • First thing is, BEWARE! I tried to put Linux on my Acer Aspire and it was a disaster! I put the distro on my Ventoy USB and then booted from it. The installation process started, and I checked the erase disk and install Zorin on the disk. The process continued my hard drive was erased as expected, and finally it reached the end and prompted me to restart and remove the installation media. As soon as it restarted, I got the error; "No Bootable Device". Meantime my hard drive was wiped I did not have Windows anymore and Zorin was apparently never burned to the hard drive because I cannot boot up with it. So I am without an OS and have no bootable media for Windows 11. Thanks so much.

  • I tried the timeshift install but it hangs up on a disclaimer message can't get past it! I should have known TAB key doh ok sorted.

  • I am a new Linux Zorin 17 Pro user and thank you for that small clip of Timeshift amazing app that creates SS and directly send the file to my mount backup partition.

  • Youtube videos stops after few minutes. Same with other streaming websites. Tried Firefox and Chrome. Tried different internet connections but still still issue persists. Can you help?

  • I tried installing Zorin OS 16.3 in a HyperV, and it fails when I tell it to boot from the installer ISO.

  • Hello, Internet is not working in my Zorin OS, it is connecting but it is not working, please help.

  • Linux will never be able to compete with Windows because it is lacking in speed and has limited programs. I tried to install many distros, but unfortunately, they were all the same and very limited. I returned back to Windows because it is smooth and fast. However, Linux is good for someone who deals with servers and terminal commands.

  • I've a Acer laptop, after installation of Zorin OS, my internal mic and speaker are not working. Anyone here knows how to resolve this issue? Also I'm not getting any drop-down options for the same

  • Install Google Chrome? It really beats the purpose of Linux – Google is exact the opposite of Linux philosophy… THUMB DOWN.

  • I HATE g-nome (and it's INCORRECTLY pronounced even byt he DUMBASS creators)….but this is DIFFERENT.. especially wtih POP tiling added…. WOW>

  • Oh heck no– keep the Google TRASH off of it— if you MUST– use UNGOOGLED CHROMIUM— it's just as fast- or even FASTER and no google spy shit on it… This software is too good to f… up with GOOGLE crap…

  • I installed it- and loved it… added kde- and hated that— so I'm RE-installing it FRESH today— I can watch my security cam apps on it– without my phone- and SO much more!!! I even like the work on it– and I hate regular G-nome…. but this one is different.. and I installed the POP shell for TILING and i'ts PERFECT— beautiful, fast, slick- and just WORKS. NOW_ I had ONE issue Maybe YOU can help me with. The BASH terminal can't find anything. I do "Sudo apt install……" and it comes back with "unable to locate package"– no matter what. Now I did get it to install the POP shell later– but tried several things and it won't do it. IDEAS????

  • If you also have zorin light like me you may need to search any part of this that doesn't seem to be installed in the software section.

    I didn't have the additional drivers software installed

  • After installing Zorin on my Mac, sound doesn’t work at all, is there any solution for this ?

  • I went to update the drivers, and it says I'm using a manually installed driver. It says it's an Nvidia corporation unknown and all options are greyed out. I let Zorin install the drivers, I didn't touch anything.
