$5000 Redhat Portable Compute Cluster Quick Look (Shadowbox)

Sorry about the video quality, I did not think to bring my DSLR to this expo. I talked to Redhat representatives briefly about their portable compute solution codenamed “Shadowbox” at the NASA LARC 2017 Data Science Expo. This is an enterprise grade portable solution for heavy computational needs. In the video I inquire about the hardware and underlying software used to create what is essentially a mobile data center. This initial build was a proof of concept, they have a much more powerful case setup planned for the future.

  • I remember I could compute Pi on my Apple 2. So why would I buy that?

  • shoulda used esp32's , $5 each and they are dual core and tiny… coulda built a 2000-core cluster with 1000gb ram with that much money haha

  • Awesome video! I read that NASA Langley is having an openhouse on the 21st…are you going to be covering that on the channel?

  • That's a nice setup, gnu/linux escalates really nice in clusters… and curiously, debian and fedora (redhat fork) are my flavors of choice when i use linux 🙂

  • I'd love to have Ryzen Pro on these. Would be awesome.

  • Hold up so how is this 5000 it would be easier and cheaper to just build a 16 core Xeon cluster

  • This looks like a Bitcoin miner setup? Can someone help me understand what this is?

  • What computer language you are learning right now and what language you are going to learn ?
