In this video, Tim Warner covers the ReFS in Windows Server 2012. Learn how “resilient” translates to a high integrity, transactional file system that’s self-healing. Or what to do with that max volume size of 262,000 EB — that should last you for at least a little while.

ReFS, the next-generation file server for Windows Server 2012 supplants NTFS for those in need of the most high-integrity, resilient file system. For starters, a 262,000 exabyte maximum volume size is mind-numbingly large, and thanks to the resiliency that ReFS was built to support, file corruptions and individual cluster corruptions are self-healing. And since the resiliency of ReFS refers to it being online all of the time, corruptions can be healed with minimum or absence of downtime. ReFS has some caveats to consider: like no booting straight from ReFS and no read from Windows 7 — only Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 can locally read volumes, plus other details for admins to know and take to heart.
