Junos Monitoring and Troubleshooting | Introduction to Juniper and JNCIA Part 21
Ping and traceroute are very similar to Linux. Try using ‘traceroute monitor’, which continually monitors a path, and updates stats in real time.
Logs are stored in /var/log. In particular, the messages log is very useful. The ‘monitor’ command is useful for tracking logs contents in real-time. It’s like using ‘tail -f’ in linux.
‘Monitor interface’ and ‘monitor interface traffic’ can show us real-time stats of interfaces.
Trace options are like debugs, and are used to write troubleshooting data to a log file that we can configure.
Sooner or later you’re going to need to call JTAC for support. When you do, it will save you time if you have already collected logging information that they will need.
