• Thanks: I have an hp pavilion laptop – is it the same method for checking screen problem. My laptop has hdmi cable but external monitor is vga so do I have to get an hdmi cable to check on my Samsung tv?

• that was an easy fix, but not everyone has access to replacement screen, so we do the tape method to try and fix this type of defect.

• Well that was the display but it may be just a bad cable connector, in that case you don't need a new display. Just push in the back of the screen and see if it changes, open up the laptop and try to move the cable.
