  • Some entities always just want support. And they are willing to pay for it. But at a reasonable cost. Paying $1700 a year for Ubuntu Support PER SERVER is stupid! Get a few hundred servers and I can just pay for the high talent staff instead. Now, charge $5-10 per month per server? Sure, let's talk. Would you like a few grand a month from a company or $0 a month? We want to support the company, but too many of those entities have Executives that want Millions per year in total compensation and thus they charge outrageous sums of money. Software jacks up with the traditional supply and demand curves and open source software makes it even worse. These companies must find a balance to supporting the product and keeping the company alive. Too many of them chase the Whales and they forget about the Tails. There are ALWAYS going to be folks that don't want to pay for support. But there will ALWAYS be somebody who will if the price is reasonable.

  • This is how I heat my house. Proxmox cluster and spread out the machine in the house. Put the hottest machines in the coldest rooms. I have servers in 3 different rooms. I still don't have the heat on. Wintertime is great, but summer is a bummer when you get the electric bill.

  • they can always add advertising popups…free is not ever truly free. just like energy..never free.

  • Deciso B.V., a company in the Netherlands is responsible for OPNsense hardware.

The CPU in question in the video is an AMD GX-420MC SOC down-clocked to 1.6GHz.

The OPNsense stuff uses Coreboot too.

  • I'd be keen on a video of all the different pricing models available to commercial entities from all the big players.

  • I don't mind paying for software. It's just that as a home user the cost is just too much. I wish they would put up a non-support home license for $40 to $60 a year.
Breakers are supposed to trip under adverse loads, this is why I dedicated 20amp breakers for my Computer Room/Office at home. Gave the network gear a dedicated 15amp as well.

  • CPU details what in the second line dood in the shop …….
And it did say it is a AMD-G CPU annd thee Rack ons AMD EPYC

  • $400 for 3 years support and software access to Meraki or
$1,197 for 3 years support and software access to PFSense…
It's not even a competition, they've priced themselves well out of their customer base.

  • You blow fuses, you trip breakers. From a family with a few electricians, this bugs me.

  • So chief- what's the low down on the pfsense rug pull?
