As network environments change, it may be necessary to change the IP address of your server; one of the simplest ways to do this is from the command line.

  • You missed a really imp step: to edit /etc/hosts where the IP is hardcoded.

  • for some reason its not working for me. It totally takes the new ip but when I shut down and turn it back on the ip is not what I had entered but if I go back into nano to re edit it, it shows the new ip i had just entered before shutting it down

  • I made a rookie mistake doing this.

I was setting up a new server on new hardware to create a cluster and when I watched this video I followed it through but was using the web UI shell.
Guess what happended when I shut down the interface:

yup, I lost connection throgh the web UI and had to unplug the system that was sitting somewhere else not near a monitor lol

  • Hmm something not working for me. I moved to another IP in the same subnet and don't seem to be able to access the web interface any longer. Confirmed the etc/network/interfaces config file has the new IP. The etc/hosts file looks to be empty but documentation seem to indicate it may not be needed. IP that comes up on the host display after reboot still shows the old IP but cannot reach web interface from either IP.

  • @Viatto how to Change Proxmox ip port

  • Viatto how to Change Proxmox ip port

  • Actually it's not that dumb. I did the same exact thing. Thanks for the quick tutorial It was helpful

  • If the IP in the Welcome Console does not change after a reboot, update /etc/host & /etc/hosts files as well…

  • This will not work if you did not also change the IP within the /etc/hosts file. Proxmox will continue to display the old IP when telling you where to connect. Need to update this video.

  • I've to edit also the hostst file in etc/hots, then systemctl reboot. Thks

  • so yeah i save the buffer but i cant exit the buffer

  • Web interface still is stuck listening on old IP using this method, but it’s discoverable and can be edited from node management.

  • I wish you'd shown how to do the non-lazy way of cycling the interface because my server takes about 5 minutes to reboot

  • @Viatto is it possible to use the same process to reconfigure a PCI NIC from a VM back to being a default NIC that is visible to all VMs.

I accidently choose the main Ethernet port to be a PCI for a VM and now it made it private/invisible in my network.
Thus making me use the command line to restore it back to it's default state. However, I'm too new at proxmox to know what to do, could you give me some tips pls?
