Ubuntu Unity Remix 22.04 | Still An Amazing Desktop
Continuing with my look at the Ubuntu 22.04 releases we take a look at an old friend. The Ubuntu Unity Remix is a spin of Ubuntu that ships a refined Unity experience. This release brings with it all of the updates from the latest LTS of Ubuntu. Ubuntu Unity remix now also ships with Flatpak and Flathub integration. They’ve also switched out some of the GNOME applications for ones better suited for the Unity desktop.

Unity has to be still the best Linux Desktop
Good review, my 3 desktop in order Unity, which I am using now, KDE and finally xfce. In my opinion there isn't any other. A very weak forth would be Gnome Version 2 any other version is just a hack of the 4.
I really like Unity even though there was this community hate for it.
Great Video! Compiz is always good-looking! At least, I think there's Compiz under the hood.
with all do respect nut it looks outdated a bit amd it need work in aspect of looks and to be modern Gnome is way better in my humble opinion with that said it's nice to see Unity still alive and develop
Flatpak and Flathub repo enabled by default, but Firefox is a snap?!? Why not flatpak? Maybe because the snap is default on Ubuntu 22.04? Personally I don't like both, so I would install the tar. Same for Thunderbird. Minimize, maximize and close look weird on the left side with maximize on the right side.
No one can review a distro like you. Thanks!
Can you try GUIX next?
Its funny. Back when Canonical pushed Unity EVERYONE hated it. Forums were full of rage.
Crawled Google a bit to find posts from back then.
"I just upgrade to 11.10 a discovered, with true horror, that unity was the only desktop option available.
Seriously, who the heck was the stupid person who made such a stupid decision?
Unity is just a huge piece of crap."
Now: "Oh look the nostalgia ohhhh nice!"
Makes me wonder how people would react if Microsoft reintroduced the XP or Vista UI/UX.
… or how people would say "Hey, snap wasnt actually that bad …" after it being deprecated.
Human are weird. Push something out and make people hate you. Then deprecate it and make people feel nostalgic about it.
Like, decide :))
The Nobara Project, a modified version of Fedora Linux with user-friendly fixes added to it.
Can you please give it a review?
The purple theme and blur is gorgeous 😍
the top panel doesn't feel smooth and i hate this part !
I always really liked the way the title bar controls merged with that taskbar up top, felt like it saved me screen space. I think it was just called Ubuntu Netbook Edition when I used it for the first time. Definitely would prefer it to GNOME!
Good video Tyler.
👍
Unity7 forever, mate
For me this looks like the ideal desktop. I have set up something very similar with KDE Plasma but this is much more polished. I will give it a try
It's only when the remixes come out it makes you ask the question why did Ubuntu get rid of it in the first place if someone else can do it surely they could
Great video! Unfortunately after ditching Unity DE Ubuntu has become “just another one system”. I started my way with Ubuntu unity, but now switched to fedora
OMG, That purple colour scheme is SWEET !
This official and safe or not ?
Similarly to Windows Phone 7 & 8, Unity was the best DE of its type but was dropped by its owner. A huge shame for both, they were fast, useful and beautiful. Unlike anything which out-lived them.
I think that Canonical should have kept Unity 7, and just made it into more of a community project. Gnome is fine, but it really doesn't feel as polished as Unity. Unity made Ubuntu pretty marketable.
Good video
Unity7 is a great DE. To bad Ubuntu dropped it as default
