Installing & Removing Desktops in Ubuntu

Have you always wanted to try out that xubuntu-desktop your nerdy friends talk about, are you tired of kubuntu, or would you like to save resources using lubuntu?
In this video I will show you how to install another Desktop-environment on your Ubuntu-pc and how to uninstall them, if you don’t want them any more.

## info

install a new desktop-environment:

sudo apt-get xubuntu-desktop

or

sudo apt-get kubuntu-desktop

(just type the desktop you want, eg. lubuntu-desktop, edubuntu-desktop,mythbuntu-desktop,…)

remove a desktop-environment:

sudo apt-get remove xubuntu-dektop

sudo apt-get autoremove

you can replace xubuntu by the DE you want to remove (eg. kubuntu, lubuntu, edubuntu…)

or visit: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/puregnome

You can get all software shown in this video for FREE!

  • The really weird thing is that here on Ubuntu 11.10 I had installed XFCE by doing
    sudo apt-get install xfce4 (I think)
I don't know what but it's not in Software Center and when I do the apt-get remove command it doesn't find it. It still is in my login menu and works fine still. Am I stuck with XFCE?
