Ubuntu 6.10 with XGL & Kiba-Dock

After some modifications, here’s a video of my Ubuntu 6.10 desktop with Beryl XGL and Kiba-Dock.
The music is the Main Theme from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

  • @penelopoop yes you can play warcraft on it and its not as hard to do as kkkdwww made it seem
    you have basically 2 options free or buy, hard or easy respectively
    free and hard is a program called wine (not to hard just run the exe to install warcraft and then play with wineconfig settings till it works)
    buy and easy is crossover games it is $25 and just run and install
    the only downside to these is any windows programs you install will require higher system specs than recommended on the box

    he only asked if it could do anything other than these "snazzy" effects since that was all the video was showing

  • You can run a search on Ubuntu forums (there are pre-packaged debs as well as guides on how to compile from source if you prefer it that way). Note that the physics engine (akamaru) has long since been discontinued (and you'd have to run older builds of Kiba-dock to use it) and Kiba-Dock development as a whole has been halted for quite a while now. Currently Cairo-Dock is probably the most functional for Linux

  • Well the performance of "eye candy" alongside other applications given the system specifications can be used as a measure of overall system performance. Also, it's rather hard to display stability in a video XD.

    What??? Linux was created as a hobby project by Linus as sort of a minix clone. It had nothing to do with MS, who wasnt even "big brother" at that point (i think 1990). Id also be interested to see evidence that MS "tried to stop" it from being created–I think MS pretty much pretended they didnt exist till the late 90s.

  • Im not going to troll, but i find it funny how my opinion (that is completely valid) was given bad reps and ultimately removed, just because it was criticizing the current state of Linux.

    Linux was originally created in response to the criticism of "big brother M$' and to give an alternative option to windows; something M$ tried to stop.

    Now linux is being criticized and its stopped.
    Is this the future of Ubuntu? linux?
