Okay…have no idea why but…the delivery…the pause…"..how many foot pounds are you going to put on it…" I have not stopped laughing! Dad joke hall of fame right there!
I am absolutely enjoying this series of videos!!! It really gives me the same enjoyment as watching This Old House on PBS growing up.
Hello guys ,from Australia. Have been watching your shows as of very recently.I have watched many shows since the time YouTube started and your relaxed , easy styled banter, explanations and cross talk with each other is what makes the show.Stay away from the commercial contracted shows as those so called gurus will strip away the true character of your show.Your building codes, practices are different to Australia but it is good to see tradesman doing the right thing compared to all the ' do it yourselfers' that think they have a free for all to build whatever they want. The commeraderie and laughter is your trademark.Do not lose that.Thank you for some great moments and laughter.
Gearing up to start my own remodel on my little “wartime” cottage building. Thanks for the inspiration 🥰
when you do, replace rafters and repair rafters on the half-roof.
why don't you remove it so that you can raise it a little by changing the slope a little and get the gutter at the same height as the other roof surface, so that the whole wall is not red again in 20 years.
I don't think this solution would cost much more, and it would also be possible to build walls later, so that there would be a slightly larger living space
I know you guys are professionals but you make it look so easy. This project is turning out so nice.
Can you do a segment on how you get the measurements on the measuring tape I never learned how to use one and I am curious
kinda scary – jason is getting to be a really good carpenter
CARPENTER ADVANTAGE CALCULATION!!!! I am a long time fan of your channel and the great work you do! I am a woodworker and Mechanical Engineer and after watching your last video when Jamie used the chain tension to move the framing I did a quick calculation. I emailed you my calculations and solved for the lateral force you could apply with a certain weight and a certain angle of the chain. The closer to horizontal the chain is the more force you can produce! With a weight of 180 lbs and an angle of 10 degrees you can produce 511 lbs! Formula is F=Weight/(2*Tan(angle)) when the angle is measured from horizontal.
How do you guys like the Perkins Bro's tool rigs? I was thinking about getting one. I noticed all the guys have one now instead of the DiamondBack rigs.
What stud?
My house had the bottom third rot off of 7 studs at the back of my garage, along with the sill plate and I just found another missing sill plate under the kitchen door while tracking a rat in the basement. Both areas were under the old deck, which had been improperly flashed. The first had been caught during a siding job but the second was unfortunately hidden by an old porch slab that was poured against the foundation by that door. This is going to be an interesting one to figure out. I have a feeling the cabinets and door framing are the only things holding that section of wall from ripping the top plate off of the rafter extensions.
…and if that description makes no sense, that's basically par for the course with this house.
I’m new to video recording my work, and have noticed your quality is top notch. Have you ever considered doing a video on how you make a video and what software/hardware you like to use in order to make these beautiful videos come to life?
Too bad you couldn't salvage the bricks from the chimney; they'd make nice piers for the deck.
A ground heater will do 12'' of frost in 24 hours.
i saw an ad for an exterior ground heated blanket product that thawed a couple feet at a time
Welcome to my world!! Home RENO!! Always a surprise and changes every job you go to!! Its a WAY different work experience than building new. A blessing and a curse…but never dull.
When will you guys continue with the Modern Home build?
Hey a Pro Tip i learned a long time ago was to trace that roof line, then lay the level on the roof and trace the other side of the levels thickness. It back spaces the cut line back to allow for sheathing to plane up. A quick and dirty trick to use…if anyone wants.
This house is young compared to some of the ones I work in every day.
I repair and remodel houses from the late 1700s😂 Charleston SC
Love the foot pounds joke… keep em coming Jamie 😂
Did AHJ require an Engineers sign off with adding new load (OSB) to the existing roof structure?
Jamie “great parking”
Jono be like 😑😑😑
in cemeteries we have what are known as grave burners, giant propane fueled flame throwers with a grave sized covers to thaw the ground.
"thats about the deepest I've seen the ground froze" laughs in 48" frost depth but seriously as an owner of a 1930 home I feel so much of this
Awesome job guys.
Minnesotan here who has had to thaw 2,000 sqft of ground. It was 2.5ft deep of frost and it took 9 days to thaw is out completely. You thaw it out first then dig, so you don't dig a few inches at a time.
