linux web server
Nick being against the stock market? Unfathomably based. I like him way more now.
I'm waiting for a Linux ARM laptop. I don't want to pay for Windows spyware and then install Linux. I'd rather contribute to Linux's development.
I currently use windows on my work Laptop because we are like 90% windows users at work and also almost exclusively run windows servers. At home i have a windows gaming PC and a ThinkPad with chrome os flex because I almost exclusively use it do open chrome.
i have a dual boot, windows fedora, i work from my PC and need all adobe programs from photoshop to after effects, premiere, illustrator and so on, but after work I use linux for gaming and other non work related stuff
I use all three
What's so special about Cosmic reveals? Anyone can compile it for themselves or look at the Git commits.
I use windows on my gaming pc …. Mainly due to anti-cheat. While a lot of games i play support easy-anti-cheat with linux enabled …. But have been known to ban linux users for cheating.
I use linux on my other machines though
if only game performance on a device that barely reach 60fps on windows run the same on linux, I will fully switch.
I'm on the fence of jumping to Fedora but i haven't done so yet due to several reasons. I might get a lot of flak for this but here goes.
Applications:
Some of the applications i run on windows can't i run on linux even with wine, one of them is AquaComputes Aquasuit to control fans and RGB
Some games i play either crashes, lag/stutter og downright won't run. Some instances i can make them run better but requires me to do some or alot of research, whereas Windows i just press play (Reason why i haven't recommended linux to any friend who aren't so skilled IT). Sometimes you just want it to work instead of having to deal with troubleshooting every time.
GUI:
KDE do i like for its way for giving me out of the box customization on panels placement and so no. But i hate its tracky and crude look and it took me several customizations installations to get it to something i somewhat could live with, but here is the kicker. WHY should i need to install third-party themes which i have no clue if is secure to get transparent windows, rounded edges, cursors and icons. The fact i had to keep track of the mess of mixing customizations
Gnome is what i would call the most smooth of them all. But limited by default, limits i can't wrap my head around why it aren't default and why it have taken so long to make default. Again do i need third-party to do the simples of stuff. Like change cursor, how the dock behaves, color theme of system, ect.
What they all have in common. Which grind my gears and i have mentions in both KDE and gnomes and in general, they have the most pixilated cursor i've ever seen, it have never bothered me or either Apple OSX or Windows, but this drives me crazy and the black cursor makes it look worse with the white outer line. Each single time i've gone and downloaded a cursor pack which fixes it……but hold there is more to that matter! WHY when i change the cursor in their fancy GUI either it be third-party to build in that the OS sometimes on some apps and on login screen defaults back to the built-in default pixilated cursor and only way for me to change it is that i need to go to the root and manually make a folder and move the cursor files in a terminal using sudo, bloody just throw me a promt of typing in password and just bloody do that too when i change cursor.
minor thing but still bothers me is when i start the system and haven't logged in i'm greeted by that ugly cursor again and a background image, which i can't change unless i again use a terminal or some third-party app i again have to put my trust into.
Distributions:
Too fucking many! Very few of them does anything special, most of the time its just whatever GUI they have chosen to tweak a little slapped it on, maybe made a applications that maybe makes it a little easier to change stuff. Then i question, what's the point, you chose a distro and if its some of smallers ones you cross your fingers that those few people who maintain it can keep up or you are stuck with something that they have abandoned or the 2 out of 4 people who maintained it didn't likes Bobs mail icon he made and instead of working with, then chose to make go make their own distro. I get that people dislike some stuff and want their own, but it just gets hell'a' confusing when a completely new have to figure out what to pick, while Apple and Microsoft only give your 1 option but at least they are well polished but comes with either stupid prices or spyware/bloatwere and ADwere
Opensource madness:
Why and i ask why is it everyone when it comes to Opensource wants to invent the wheel times and times again and can't agree upon a few things and make those good. To be honest i had to explain to a friend who wanted to run linux about the many GUI choices and different installers and ect and he asked, which one is best, to which i was like: Well its complicated, X got this and that but does not do that, Y Does what X can't but lack what Z can, but Z can do Y and X but does not do it very well and Y can do it all but no hand holding and you better know what your a doing! (Which i just get the reply "I just want it to work" which i sadly i can't say it will. Well most stuff went ok, but some of his games didn't work very well or not at all which was a deal breaker for him)
I've even chosen a 7900XTX due to i at some point wanted to see if i could make the switch and escape Microsoft and AMD GPU have been less of a headache when it comes to linux
13:29 I mean, The company publicly said its thing worked and it ended up not working. Shareholders suing makes sense.
I run windows now and am learning linux. But I struggle to move all the way over. It's very much a bunch of tiny problems add up sort of deal. Anything from editing videos in Davinci to using OBS. Playing games is a great experience for the most part. But odd things there, too. Randomly, I couldn't log into fallout through steam. But Able to on windows. Nothing I did fixed the problem. Anyway, I'm not really a person who comments very often, but I genuinely do not want to run windows past 10. I do believe Linux is the way. But damn sometimes it kicks me hard. Anyway, love the content.
You mentioned running your business on your Tuxedo laptop… I'd love to know what business applications you use? A video howto would be very acceptable and something I could point friends to ease their fear of beginning their linux adventure (on CachyOS).
Thanks Nick.
My daily driver is Windows. I have a home server running Debian, a Raspberry Pi to back it up, and a Steam Deck otherwise. Until nvidia, wayland, or some combination of the two figure out multi-monitor VRR I'll be over here with my games and second monitor for discord, a browser, steam, etc.
It’s not gambling! 😂
based stock market take
Still use windows 11 because many programs/apps simply don't work with Wayland yet.
Currently I'm trying out VanillaOS 2. It's super easy to install, and runs a solid stable Gnome experience. As a Gnome fan, I like that it's pretty baseline out of thew box, and it lets you choose Extension Manager over Gnome Extensions to manage your… well Extensions. One note I'd give to anyone trying it out: don't bother changing to dark mode until after the first run setup stuff is done; it causes hiccups. Nothing terrible, just little hiccups.
I haven't installed any Android apps because… well, honestly, I don't like Android apps by and large. I just can't think of a reason to use one one in a desktop environment. Anyone have any suggestions for something in an android app that isn't better handled by a Linux native app? One caveat: I will not intentionally put Google on my laptop, so anything I can't get from, say F-Driod or whatnot is out.
after years of trying to be productive with linux I am mostly mac user now.
yes, linux has some advantages, but all in all mac works better for me in many ways.
Hey Nick, are you going to take a look at Fedora Atomic desktop? Bazzite is really stable for me despite me being on Wayland + Nvidia even before Plasma 6.1 and the recent drivers!
If you recognize that you don't know much about something, you should probably refrain from making repeated pronouncements like "it's all fake" and "it doesn't really mean anything". People who understand the subject better than you are liable to get frustrated by your flippant spreading of ignorant notions.
In Crowdstrike's shareholders' defense (🤮), it's less like suing the casino because you lost, and more like suing the casino because they lied to you about what the odds are.
I use Windows and linux and after win10 support end I will step away from Windows 🙂
Finally decided to send some money your way. Thank you for always making super relevant videos that keep me up to date with all the Linux news (as well as all the drama) ❤
Nvidia driver problems … well ya see, there's your problem.
I just use windows bcs my bios is incompatible with linux, is a laptop and it can't resume from suspense and some random crashes, but i have a homelab to still fun🥰
