Hi. how to make ubuntu with desktop enlightenment? is there an iso ready to use on the starter pendrive? Thx.
Is it "Ga – Nomes" or just "Nomes" ?
By the time you disable collecting info canonical already got your pc info
I was on Fedora 40 but I hate it, I'm back on Ubuntu, I'll upgrade to 24.10 when it comes out for now I'm on 24.04.
I always like how Ubuntu makes Desktop Linux easier to use than lets say…Arch
i don't use ubuntu because i'm a human being with a soul
Hi dt i tried to install your dtos in archolinux but the system is not working I got this error : Desktop manager is not active
You can't help noticing the crown in the middle of the screen. Canonical is run from London.
I use fedora, but what strikes me about reviews like this (no offense to you) is that they become less of a review of this distros specific implementation, and more a review of Gnome, which is I assume going to be the same across the board irrespective of distro, as long as they have the same gnome version. I love the quarter tiling feature and can’t wait for that! I felt reviewing the wallpapers was unnecessary however.
I think Ubuntu without Snap package are little bit better for any potatoes device. Especially running on cheap laptop or old computer
No matter how times I see it, I am always amazed by your strong and complicated passwords
Well, 23min is not 'quick'…
I just wish Lubuntu shipped with LXQt 2.0, but the upgrade seems pretty good regardless.
I'm getting an unusual error. I've installed Ubuntu many times and have never experienced the 'Failed to Open /EFI/ubuntu – not found' error. I've done some poking around, but cannot find any insight on why this error appears. (At least not my exact circumstances) The system seems to boot fine. It's just that the error is mildly irritating. Has anyone else had this? Is this a bug? TIA
Two questions.
1)How easy is to add a secondary m.2? So steam can pick it up.
2) how's gaming on Ubuntu?
This was a very informative overview of Ubuntu 24.04, thank you.
Installed as a snapPACK 😀
oooh Snap OS ….nah thanks
I like your Ubuntu tee-shirt.
DT, what about the size of application now since default format is snap ??? I found the live iso is 6 GB ! Huge size. I understand they have compression on snap now to speed the loading of it. But they use more memory since libraries will be many times in memory because they are all included in every snanp. I'm curious to know what do you think of that ??
Just upgraded from 23.10 to 24.04 worked well, no issues. Wanted to change to something more stable so went for the LTS. Seems nice.
Finally a mouse acceleration toggle in the settings of Gnome. Took way too long.
8:45 that feature has existed on windows for years surprised that’s a new feature
Is it just me or the App Center in Ubuntu 24.04 won't open ?? I already tried different fixes but none of them works. I did a fresh install on my computer and this is the first time I have this problem. It starts opening when I click on the icon but it closes before I can see a screen totally open
I work as a back-end dev & sysadmin and I watch your videos to wind down after work 🤣 thanks for the amazing content all these years 💗💗💗
dpkg -i {random Deb} will always work.
This is already so much better than 22.04. Thank you Ubuntu for such a polished release. I have to say, I am very shocked on how well 24.04 looks. In fact, I am running 24.04 as of right now. I just can't get over how neat and pretty it looks lmao
I would like to see you dig into Ubuntu Pro. You simply dismiss it for the average user and I tend to agree with that. However, there are two issues with this that I would like clarification of. 1. If you ignore it, like you recommend, you will be forever asked to change your mind with no way to stop the ask. 2. When they ask, it is implied that you are missing security updates. Are you? I can't get my head around what Ubuntu Pro actually is and if it is even possible to have a fully secure Ubuntu installation without it?
Ubuntu (including its derivatives) and Debian are the backbone of Linux IMHO. Honestly, this version of Ubuntu looks a little more polished than the last Ubuntu LTS I used back in 2021 before I switched to Pop!_OS and now Tuxedo OS. I always recommend Ubuntu or Ubuntu based (for the Snap haters) largely because the amount of resources and documentation is staggering. AskUbuntu is a lifesaver. Derrick I agree with you about the Gnome generic naming. It's kinda annoying, but I respect their campaign to create a unified app experience with the Gnome production tools. The KDE team needs to work on this. Soon Microsoft Windows will be copying our homework as far as the UI is concerned.
It is just the kernel 6.8 which is a big leap and nothing else . Canonical is just a bad imitation of Microsoft.
Hey DT, sorry if you've gotten this request before but I was wondering whether – to better demonstrate the automatic proprietary driver installation tools in distros like this – would you consider doing these test drives on bare metal and using a hardware screen capture device to get the video? Literally the only nitpick I've got. Thanks for another cracking video – I'm a Debian diehard but this has got me curious…
I just farted
8:48 i think that they installed the tiling assistant extension
I AM A A LINUX FUN FOR ALMOST 9 YEARS, AND THE LAST 6 I ONLY HAVE LINUX ON MY MACHINES, THE LAST WINDOWS I HAVE LIVED WAS WINDOWS 7, BUT I HAVE TO GIVE THE REGARDS TO THE GNOME TEAM, FOR MAKING THE TILING FEATURE TO CHOOSE THE 2ND WINDOW TO TILE AUTOMATICALY, ALTHOUGH THE IDEA WAS ADOPTED FROM WINDOWS 10.
IS IT POSSIBLE, TO EXPLAIN WHAT FIRMWARE IS AND WHAT IS ITS JOB? (IDEA FOR NEXT VIDEO)
I AM ALSO A DT FUN….. ALTHOUGH I LIVE IN XFCE (LINUX MINT) 🙂
XFS is my favorite filesystem !
Running on 24.04 right now. It's a great Linux distro, and I would recommend this to anyone. Except that, on my first try, it can't decrypt my ZFS drive, seems like an issue with swap, which I think should be zRAM already. And the buggy "Enhanced" tiling that would crash the entire system, kicked me out of the session, when I double-click on the GNOME top bar. Nonetheless, ZFS runs great on the system. Excellence distro!
same old boring
Totally disagree about never having to install a deb. I have had to install many deb packages due to no flatpak or snap. Or the icon doesn't appear in the tray with a flatpak or snap, but does with the deb. Some examples are Megasync and ExpanDrive.
I found that Ubuntu 24.04 didn't have the latest Nvidia 550 driver. Also when I tried to use the software manager updates failed. Seems like there are still some bugs and it is better waiting until they get an update.
It's an installer! If it works, you can work. It doesn't have to look good.
thank you for this video
Does Ubuntu have parental controls? Microsoft has an excellent parent control tool called Family Safety and parents can control the OS, the browser and software installed.
I am switching the entire family to Ubuntu because Windows 11 no longer supports Xeon CPUs and the work around is fine but there are freezing issues with the latest Win11 updates so goodbye Microsoft
I agree that Gnome has been fairly ok, more snappy and more stable during the last 2 major releases of Ubuntu.
BTW: Recommend Ubuntu-users to use nala. It's a front-end "fixer" for Ubunutu's sucky cli packet manager (apt). The most hated packet manager was the main reason I didn't like ubuntu. Now it's only snap left that sucks in that system, but I guess it's possible to remove that one from Ubuntu. Or is it? 🙂
Umbuntu
its debian 24.10 alpha beta testing and ubuntu theme and they call it. stable
