  • Sorin..i don't understand this kind of people..why you are buying this kind a laptop for gaming??….to burnout???why??…..it's very expensive laptop and never may comapre with a desktop gaming computer…NEVER….why people buying this kind of laptop??…you will play games on the tree??…on the airplane??…on the train??…why??…what they think'in??…sorry for them…i'm a not gaming player..but my daughter it is…in fact it work in the graphic workstation pc…a desktop one for shure…i never buying this kind of laptops…never..for shure i will buying for my daughter a laptop for faculty but for now it is in the X class(10 class ending),but when her has to end this cycle os school (high school) i will buy one laptop for work-office…and for shure another desktop PC workstation…..sorry for my worse gramatical writing english …have a nice day dear Sorin…

  • if you add more wattage to a laptop but you ensure the components are cooler (thermal putty replacement ect) is there any real risks(75/80c max temps) 125w max to 175. (g14 4080 vbios replacment)

  • Hi Sorin, great work! But im not confident the VRAM is dead. I think right approach is to replace the mosfet and check.

  • If you buy an used GPU + VRAMS you are gonna expend over $350, for $500 you can buy a working motherboard tested, so there is no point on replacing the chips with the work it will take if for only $150 more you can get a full working motherboard. A few months ago I bought the motherboard for my Nitro 5 that had a dead CPU and is working perfectly again, I also upgraded from an i5 to an i7 because it was only $30 more.

  • Alex from Northridgefix usually changes these VRAM shorted mosfets to fix, once he explained why the GPU or chipset don't burn. These mosfets usually acts in fact like DRmos that works monitoring voltage and current and protects the memory or any other component after it. This is why the ohms impedance are similar to a GPU or CPU burned

  • I think the 2nd input MOSFET is missing.
I have an AN515-57 and it has that 2nd MOSFET, I know because one of those MOSFETs is what shorted on my motherboard, preventing it from charging.
I checked AN517-54 motherboards on AliExpress and it looks like that MOSFET should be there.
I'm surprised it works without it.

  • You should really get into VRAM diagnosing, reballing and replacent 😀
The error that you got in the task manager doesn't mean that the GPU is dead but it can't be fully initialised and in most cases, it's just bad VRAM.
I'm pretty sure that it can be repaired if the VRAM is replaced.

  • That laptop has been abused…Tell that gamer to stop taking his losses out on his computer….It's not the computer that caused him to lose!!

  • I get so confused. Every Laptop is different. Identifying what is what and where there located.

  • How could manufacturers prevent the mosfet failure to deliver 19V to the GPU/VRAM Power rails? Using Zener Diode to ground would solve this issue?

I'm asking because I'm thinking what kind of modifications I could do after the mosfets to prevent the high voltage to be delivered straight into the GPU/VRAM chips.

  • At 9:40 is the probe connected to a power supply or a multimeter? Where is the other end of the probe touching? I want to see how many amps and volts my battery is getting from the mother board.

  • Sorin,

You have so much faulty nitro 5 Boards last half year. And not all gpu. But dead . Can the customer send it to you for spares. So you can make the world a better place recycling a little. and maybe you fix one .

  • The 12 year lad, who took it to a repair shop, golden!

  • I wonder what is it exactly that Acer did so wrong for so long with the Nitro lineup that they're so bad.. The amount of faulty nitro 5 i see everywhere is astonishing, even older models with gtx 1050 all the way to rtx 3060 they all have common issues like this..
It's crazy to think about it because their predator lineup even though it doesnt have the best reputation for being reliable, they dont seem to fail as often or as bad as the nitro laptops

  • why does all nitro 5 fails within the first 2 years? (mine did)

  • 4:34 – Sorin, why you not test after removing the vram dr-mos? They can be short to ground, not always to 19v, meaning the vram got grounded, not burned..

  • Govt must force to such companies who do not want send such IC in market and this will create lot of e wastes in environments

  • TI still sells those BQ24780 battery charger chips, so you don't have to use pulls. Mouser and Digikey both have them. Ha, Nvidia… I tried, they laughed. No way, won't sell to punks like us.

  • Hi, Sorin what is youre method for remove black epoxy glue that is under the lenovo apu ?

  • I hope you'll never need a donated kidney, thank you for your efforts 😊

  • its a shame you can't get those chips… i remember long ago i could get lots of chips from companies that harvested everything off salvage computers and it was only a short ride to 3-4 places that did this. If you were in china in a big city like shenzhen it would be very easy to get them local. They have whole multi story buildings with every part imaginable new and used.

  • Its very sad to see a decent gaming laptop go flat like normal one 😢

  • Can you put a current sensor on these laptops so if they get shorted to protect the v-ram and gpu? Also for CPU?

  • it's been proven on this channel many times, gaming laptops are junk designed to fail. Gaming laptops are made to separate large sums of money from suckers who have too much money. Better to buy a real PC for gaming if you must and use built in gfx for a laptop, less heat, less likelyhood of catastrophic failure. I'm still using i7 6th gen Toshiba Portege top-of-the-line all-options Z30T-C laptop from 2016 that I picked up in 2019 for $300. Works very well and boots W11 in 4 seconds.

  • dar de ce s-a dus acel mosfet ? putem preveni asa ceva daca avem acelasi laptop ?

  • after all of these ı am asking myself why bother buyig a gaming laptop ,it is so pathetic design that burn a well gpu for a nothing.

  • can you not get a motherboard with a shorted CPU and get the GPU and vram from that???

  • If a single ram chip is bad the gpu will not produce image but the nvidia chip is detected. Exist tests to find what memory chip is bad and you can replace it. The nvidia chip is not damaged only the memory is

  • Can you try replacing the removed mosfet? Maybe the yellow triangle is due to absence of adequate power for ram?
