Hotmail Configuration-
ServerName: localhost Port: 110
Username: username@hotmail.com
SecuritySettings: Never / don’t check secure authentication
Hotmail SMTP settings-
ServerName: localhost Port: 25
Username: username@hotmail.com
TLS is available
Gmail Configuration-
ServerName: pop.gmail.com Port: 995
Username: username@gmail.com
SecuritySettings: SSL / don’t check secure authentication
Gmail SMTP settings-
ServerName: localhost Port: 25
Username: username@gmail.com
TLS is available
Most other email hosts will just be the same, just use the guideline
Server Type : POP
Incoming Server: localhost
UserName : username@domain
Port: 110
SMTP settings
Server Name: localhost
UserName : username@domain

Is the server name always localhost?
newest thunderbird confugures everything by itself, all you need to do is tipe in your another email account. Good tutorial though.

That might be a setting on the gmail server settings that you control on their site and not the email client itself, I'll have to look into hat latter though.
