Alma & Rocky Linux have a HUGE Problem – RHEL is Limiting its Sources..

RHEL is planning on limiting sources from their git.centos.org repo which will effect the way Alma Linux and Rocky Linux support their distros and provide updated packages to their users. This is a massive change.

  • Bro will this effect Alma Desktop Users? and why dont Linus torvalds who is the creator of linux kernel help the OS community in this situation? thanks

  • but if most people move away from linux or completely move to debian, wouldn't the concept of community die?

  • fun fact: Red Hat uses multiple projects source code to build their own version of same software, just rebranded. PULP or OpenShift are just two of many examples … Not suggesting anything, but WHAT IF THOSE PROJECTS DISALLOW REDHAT OF USING THEIR CODE? 😛

  • I suspect that this is a reaction to Red Hat being in the throws of death. RHEL is really no where to be found in the "cloud".

  • So what's a good gaming distro alternative to Nobara OS (Fedora Spin)

  • Aren't CentOS Stream and Fedora users providing valuable feedback to RHEL developers? Does this mean we should should stop using CentOS Stream and Fedora?

  • I think it's not a big problem.. if almalinux or other's have a subscription of rhel they can access the sources.

  • Time to go Debian for enterprise. Main issue for now is lacking support by 3rd party software and some maintenance tools are missing.

  • To ppl who calling us free riders: we all are free riders because Linux kernel is FOSS, and we use it every where. Your phone, TV, the website you're surfing all use Linux kernel in one way or the other. You dont need to pay to use it yet countless of developers pour their time to make it better. Not to mention some companies pay their own developers to help develop it.
