Data sources, licences and operational limits
OpenStreetMap
Base map tiles and geographic data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL). Public Nominatim is configured only for a low-traffic, non-bulk launch: submitted searches are cached, globally throttled to no more than one request per second and never used for keystroke autocomplete. Switch to a contracted provider or self-hosted Nominatim before significant commercial traffic.
Overpass API
Nearby points of interest come from OpenStreetMap through a configurable Overpass endpoint. Queries are user-triggered, radius-bounded, category-limited, response-limited and cached. Public instances have no service-level guarantee.
Open-Meteo and Copernicus DEM
Weather and elevation use Open-Meteo. Elevation is based on Copernicus DEM GLO-90. Attribution to Open-Meteo and the Copernicus programme is required. Open-Meteo’s free endpoint is non-commercial; websites with advertising or subscriptions must configure a paid commercial endpoint and key.
Wikimedia
Knowledge is requested through official APIs only when the mapped place has an explicit Wikipedia tag or Wikidata entity ID. Wikipedia extracts link to their article and use CC BY-SA 4.0 attribution. Wikidata facts use CC0; population includes its claim year when supplied. Linked translations are preferred; missing data is omitted.
Provider failure
Cached stale data may be shown briefly when a provider is unavailable. Every live-data section can fail independently so that the rest of a place report remains usable.
BeniSnous Place Score
No score is published in the MVP. A future score will expose inputs, coverage, date and formula; unavailable dimensions will be omitted instead of estimated.
