Arch Linux: The Firewall

NOTE: Sorry about the typo at 08:00. The zone is obviously libvirt.

In this video we’re going to install and explore Firewalld, a powerfull firewall utility for Linux. We are going to see how it works from the CLI, the GUI and from the Cockpit.

  • i have a problem installing nftables. It returns a 404 error on every website it tried to get the package from and i have no idea on how to fix it.

  • absolutely awesome tutorial! many thanks!

  • You always make the complex things looks so simple, I recomanded your channel for all my firends. Thank you so much for the best linux teacher

  • I have installed firewalld and after activating it my wifi is blocked. Do you have any idea why?

  • Thank you for a super informative video! I was struggling trying to find a straight forward way of configuring the firewall, then I stumbled on your You-tube page, great find, and now subscribed

  • Nunca habia visto esta interfaz. Solo utilizaba el clasico por ejemplo en ubuntu, sudo apt install gufw. Buen video, saludos.

  • Hey Ermanno!! Will you please suggest me a Linux distro for study purpose (..I just passed Highschool)
    Following are pc specs :
    Intel i3 2100
    4 GB ram
around 650 gb free Disk space.
    …..
    currently running Windows 10 x64.

  • I'm loving your videos on arch (server) cockpit and now firewall, you should check out the storage option in cockpit, you can easily configure raid through it, avoiding command line .. great idea for a video.

  • I use nftables. I learnt for more than 4 months and wrote my own firewall. Nftables is poorly documented.

  • Just another great video from the ArchLinux teacher. Getting a complex subject to look simple, explained 10 minutes, it's an art.

  • Services also can be added by port numbers.
    $ sudo firewall-cmd –zone=public –permanent –add-port=80/tcp

  • thanks for this informations👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

  • When I do

sudo firewall-cmd –add-service=libvirt –zone=libvirt (which was spelled wrong in the video by the way) –permanent

    It says

    Error: INVALID_ZONE: libvirt

Do I have to first add the libvirt zone?

EDIT: I was on the wrong machine and didn't have libvirt installed xD I read on the Arch Wiki and it says it works fine when libvirt is installed.
