DNS – Domain Name System
Port no: 53

-Maps Name to IP address
-when a client require a ip address of a host in domain, request goes to dns server
dns server returns ip address of the host

*all communications with ip address only
not with name and not with mac address

ex. in browser i open www.google.com,
i dont have/know ip address of www.google.com,
the based on my Network Adapator DNS server address
request goes to DNS server for ip address of www.google.com
the DNS Server returns ip address of www.google.com
then communicate with www.google.com’s ip address
