In this video I share my thoughts on what you need to know before you buy the MPC Studio Black.
These are the things I wanted to know before I bought my Akai MPC Studio Black.
I had an Akai MPC 2000 back in 1997, but in 2003/4 I stopped sampling and started using Reason / Cubase to make beats.
In 2007 I stopped producing altogether.
Now in October 2016, almost 10 years later, I’ve just got myself an Akai MPC Studio Black, and started making sample based beats again.
Follow my journey as I share my learning.

About the Akai MPC Studio:
The MPC Studio Black is a fresh take on the top-selling original, MPC Studio.
Akai made the Studio look cooler than ever by introducing a sleek and stylish black brushed-aluminum body.
To elevate the parameter editing experience, the master encoder wheel as well as the Q-Link knobs have been raised and made larger.
The 16 MPC pads are now thicker and more responsive, inspiring greater expression in performance and programming.
Legendary MPC Production on Your PC or Mac
The Studio Black fuses legendary MPC production with the processing power of your computer.
Its compact design is a minuscule 1.5” thin.
Weighing in at less than two pounds, the Studio Black easily fits into a laptop bag or backpack.
Its USB-powered and includes the powerful MPC Software for Mac and PC with 128-track sequencing capability.
Equipped with the legendary MPC workflow, MPC Swing, plus powerful features such as “lazy” chop, you’ll be producing great music in no time.
A large LCD screen (360 x 96 dot graphic LCD) allows you to make tracks without having to look at your computer.
Included MPC Software
Featuring 128-track sequencing capability and up to eight pad banks–more than any other MPC ever—the included MPC Software delivers a massive 7GB+ sound library, including all the sounds of the classic MPC3000 and including 2 MPC Expansions.
Instant mapping and real-time adjustment of VST plugins lets you record each track as an MPC drum program, Keygroup program, or VST/AU plugin.
Use MPC Software alone as your main creation tool or seamlessly call it up in your favorite DAW as a VST, RTAS, or AU plugin.
MPC Software supports WAV, MP3, AIFF, REX, and SND, as well as samples and sequences from any MPC ever made, and it’s compatible with both Mac and PC.

Great Tute Sir! I am a 2000XL Vet using the Studio Black Version 2.12.0 for a bit and JUST starting to really use it with a Macbook pro. I am trying to figure out WHerrrrrrrrrre is/are the 'One Shot' 'Note On' options/window arrrrrrrRRRRGH! 🙂
Thank you very very much seriously just saved me a huge upset and disappointment that I was clearly unaware of. Seriously thank you
IS IT POSSIBLE TO USE THE MPC STUDIO BLACK WITH THE NUMARK PT 01 RECORD PLAYER, IF SO, HOW? MUCH THANKS!!
I have a MacBook Pro Mid 2012 with 16GB memory 500 Sata drive 1TB external SSD 2.9 GHz with a i7 processor running Catalina 10.15.7 And I’m interested in buying the black version over the silver version my issue is will Akai support MAC OS Catalina 10.15.7 because the studio Black looks way better then the silver version & there’s no way in hell that I will buy the latest MPC MK2 that they sell for $269 here in the USA because of the small LED & I’m definitely not going to use the AKAI MPD26 I’m not a fan of FL Studio Reason or Ablelton because Logic Pro X looks way better. So from my view the other alternative that I will think about buying is the old MPC 1000 because the pads are thick & nice & I also have a M-Audio Key-Station MK3 Midi Controller which doesn’t have a built in Arpeggiator button but I heard that Logic Pro X & MPC beats does. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Pa. United States 🇺🇸
I have this studio black but never use it. My daw of choice is cubase. Is there any way that I can use studio black in cubase?
Hi, im new to mpc, im a stage performer, which is best for stage performance, studio1 or studio2? Anyone suggest me please
If I buy the studio black without software how can I get the software? I'm trying to buy one used but I'm not sure how to go about it
Is this better than the akai mpc studio 2 ?
Thank you for this Video very helpful.
Dude question though, I recieve free updates From Akai for my mpc black. But my question is I used to bring in my .wav samples folders from anywhere in my computer now so I'm unlimited on samples but how do I important my sample folders into 2.8 which it's now I'm upgraded to. I can't find import folders like I used to do in the version that it came with.
Ive been using it recently and i feel like its limited to an extent does anyone else feel this way
does anyone know how to get the unlock code in 2021?
How much USD?
I bought the silver version 5 years ago. Have used it 2 times. The Software it come with is so unintuitive that put me off immediately. Now collecting dust in its case.
Hey man thanks for your video !! Just a question is there a big difference between the pad sensitivity & responsiveness comparing to the Renaissance??
how much is the software he is using for this?
Great vid! Got it but need the stand, can anyone point me in the write direction pls 👏🏽
i could get a normal mpc studio for 50 bucks… im not sure if i should get a mpc studio or a mpk mini2????
Hi Tony! Can you confirm that the MPC Studio works with the new MPC Beats software/plugin? Hard to find info. The Touch/Ren/Studio all should have the hardware synced the software, right? Just making sure same is true with Studio. Thanks!
I'm an MPC4000 user. What benefits does the MPC Studio offer over a dedicated MPC console ?
Does the 'Studio' s/w based platform offer the same sampling automation or possibly more than dedicated MPC consoles ?
pls how can i unauthorize my akai mpc studio from window
I will never understand why they called it MPC…. This is just an MPD
So glad I watched this before I clicked buy it now, want a stand alone machine not over priced midi controller
Its interesting you prefer the computer screen I'm completely the other way, I only look at the computer when I absolutely have to.
I ordered the MPC one. But I think Im going to go with this instead. Keep the power of my computer.
Tony… Do you do lessons on this mpc?
Duuuuuuude , I was on the fence about getting this, but your video showed perfectly what it does and it does what I want!
Is this a full version daw software. So many companies give demos with their products. If this is a fully functional saw its a pretty good deal.
man, I thought that I had found company for my electribe2, now it turns out that it only works with a computer.
check my better off alone video. greetings.
Is the akai Mpd32 better than the akai black studio!?!?!?
