10:00 What’s the best VPN for 2021
1️⃣ NordVPN – most versatile of the top 5
One of the reasons why NordVPN is fast enough to reduce my speed only marginally even for a quite distant connection is its proprietary NordLynx protocol. I have consistently experienced good quality streaming whenever I watched Netflix or BBC iPlayer. The fact that NordVPN has a kill switch on every device is also useful.
I do favour some of its additional features like CyberSec. This is a real-time filter, checking if the website you are accessing is associated with any type of malware or suspicious activity.
If you own an Android device, as I do, there’s another great one for you – Dark Web Monitor.
2️⃣ Surfshark VPN – best you’re getting for the price
Once again, I love that Surfshark has the WireGuard protocol that makes it one of the fastest VPNs on my list. I always got very consistent and reliable performance even on distant servers. While it’s hard to surprise anybody with split tunneling these days, I like Surfshark’s Whitelister a lot. If you need to allocate VPN connection only to specific websites or apps, there’s no better feature for this.
But of course, the main reason why Surfshark caught my eye in the first place is its pricing. If Surfshark was just cheap, it wouldn’t have been a big deal. But it’s a great performing VPN that’s cheap and offers unlimited simultaneous connections on top of that.
You should know that Surfshark VPN has both a 7-day free trial and a money-back guarantee valid for 30 days after your purchase. However, if you want a free trial, you’ll have to activate it from the mobile app but after that, you can use Surfshark on all devices.
3️⃣ PIA VPN – best option for torrenting & Linux users
PIA is a powerhouse, it has over 30000 servers all over the world. Personally, I don’t need that many, but with almost 7500 servers in the US alone, you can find servers for the best Netflix US performance, and I’m kinda into that. Unlike top VPNs that limit their simultaneous connections to 5 or 6 devices, PIA has 10, which is better, even though not as good as Surfshark.
And, you know how VPNs on Linux usually run from a terminal window that you have to manually operate to get it to work? PIA offers a functional Linux app, with the same UI as in the other apps. For casual users sticking with Linux, this is the best VPN for sure.
4️⃣ VyprVPN – budget option for restrictive countries
I love it when a company has a clear set of values, and Golden Frog, the company that owns VyprVPN, is absolutely dedicated to privacy. VyprVPN has a proprietary Chameleon protocol, which is unbeatable at bypassing deep packet inspection and avoiding detection. VyprVPN also detects unprotected public Wi-Fi spots when you connect to them and instantly enables VPN to protect you. This service is also pretty fast thanks to WireGuard and is priced quite fairly, closer to the Surfshark’s level than any of the VPNs in this list.
5️⃣ ExpressVPN – luxurious option for privacy enthusiasts
Personally, the main reason I hold this service in such high regard is its spotless reputation. ExpressVPN’s no-log policy was court-proven. Plus, they switched to RAM-only servers that don’t allow long data storage, so nothing you send with a VPN stays on the server. ExpressVPN also gets huge props from me for having a high-quality router app that simplifies the process of using VPN with your router immensely, compared to the manual configuration.
