  • i am binge watching and got to here, don't know how youtube comments work, whether you will see tis or not. chains or anything, soak in penetrant over night. You can buy gallon quantities of PB blaster of WD 40. Or both. As for using screw drivers with force and torque, a box end wrench will fit most screw driver handles. Patience, unless it is emergency. Calm cool collected gets you everywhere. Love your energy and ambition. Stay the course, oh and wire brushes, many sizes and different types copper, brass stainless metal. Gun brushes work good. Be determined.

  • Next time you get near that chain for your auto pilot put grease on it. Oil will drip off or just gum up but grease will continue to lubricate and protect.

  • I'd probably be swearing a blue streak the entire time and begging the universe cooperate! Keep up the great work.

  • Brilliant stuff. Only thing missing amidst all the challenges to really tip you over the edge was Lola's wet nose and tongue in your face while you were defenceless with both hands wrapped around your steering gear. No doubt she's had you with that at some point already 😎. Really admire your perseverance and attitude, both of you. Hats off to you ☺.

  • Noticed your rudder packing- double hose clamps below the waterline.

  • As i have said before Soak any rusty part in Citric Acid Food Grade. and warm water in a solution and say good bye to rust easy to grease up. PLUS when are you going to give the inside surface`s a good lick of white paint. to brighten up your boat it will make you feel good after you do it

  • What has worked for me with old chain , too late for you guys , is soak it in oil for a few days . wind it up in a coffee cup and enough oil to cover it . Any WD 40 or such think it as a cleaner , not lube .

  • Hopefully you measured that chain so when it goes (soon) you can replace it ez-err.

  • Best video by far…you have an untapped resource with Micheal bikini clad. Trust me ..your subs etc will definitely improve…Luv your vids.

  • there you go brother the chain is going to get loose as it frees up.

  • Great work, but it's generally easier to just remove and rebuild a system like this from the start., rather than trying to do everything in situ. Fair winds kids…

  • Use chain wax on the chain If you can get it. Less messy Also resist moisture.

  • You're a Farm girl. Get some stainless roller chain coming. Super common of fertilizer equipment, and way cheaper than in the Dominican.

  • Put the chain in a jar of diesel and let it overnight then shake the jar vigorously. Heavy gear lube was PERFECT for that application. I don't like that chain. I take it this was a used auto-pilot drive?

  • I used to have the perfect tool for those tight places. But now my 10 year old boy, is 19 and 6ft 4". I was always amazed at the things he could help me fix. Now he just tells me to buy new stuff.

  • Love you guys! only if you had another ratchet extender available ( can buy here for $5) your life would have been a tiny bit easier….but we all know the path of pain will give you more appreciation and gratitude when gliding along with your autopilot 😉

  • Great video congratulations. My tip of the day is a 50/50 mix of Hydrochloric acid and water, take off your raw water intake pipe and sit it into a five litre drum of that mix to go into the engine.Start the engine to pump that into the water journals.Stop the engine and let the acid dissolve the salt and rust build up for twenty minutes, hook the intake back up and run the engine to flush threw. If you do this semi regularly you will keep a cool running engine.Works a treat.
Cleaning rust and corrosion, same mix and submerge the item in question to be treated, flush off with water to inactivate the acid.

  • A trick to bring the old chain back to life. Fil an emptye bucket wirh engine olie, put the chain in, place it with a pot with wather put it on the Stowe head until the oil is boling. The chain wil the be clean and smoth to ryn

  • Love seeing you guys figuring it out. There are a lot of people that are afraid to even try something new and like me, you both just take it step by step and go head first into a project. Most repairs can be done by someone with a basic skill set and a good attitude. Persistence, Patience, Positivity. I have found that the 3 Ps were essential in my adventures. I can't always get the 3 but If I can get at least 2 of the Ps together for a stretch, then we are really having a good time! Bwahaha. No, but seriously, be proud. Your boat is coming along nicely, you live in paradise, plus you have a beautiful partner that actually gets dirty and knows the boat as well as you do. Thanks for the bikini boat repair and the funny faces/noises. Please keep up the fantastic job with the videos. Bye.
