Bring OpenStack & Ceph at the Edge with control plane services managed by Kubernetes (Français)

This presentation was provided at OpenInfra Day France 2024

As organizations continue to rely on OpenStack as a solid foundation for IaaS and private clouds, extending their architecture to the edge, closer to users and data sources, is enabling them to look at modern use cases like IoT, AR/VR, robotics, AI/ML, as a way to help power their business strategy.

On the other side, a new Kubernetes-based deployment and management method for managing OpenStack control plane services will be introduced while keeping all the APIs and feature sets for workloads. Kubernetes brings powerful native HA, scaling and scheduling capabilities that greatly improve OpenStack control plane management and scale.

In this session, you will learn how we are planning to design the new OpenStack edge solution with Ceph as a storage backend. You will hear about deployments, high-level designs, Glance & Cinder service’s configurations and placement as well as how Ceph is distributed, configured, isolated and accessed.

You will also have an outlook of how this solution can be reused to achieve a more enterprise private cloud-oriented use case where failure domain isolation and fault tolerance are key must-haves for workload resiliency.
