Can The New Raspberry Pi 5 Really Replace Your Desktop PC?
The Raspberry Pi 5 is a tiny computer that is packed with power. It is capable of running a wide range of tasks, including web browsing, word processing, media playback, and even some light gaming. But can it replace a desktop PC?
In this video, we take a look at the Raspberry Pi 5 and see how it performs compared to a traditional desktop PC. We also discuss the pros and cons of using a Raspberry Pi 5 as a desktop replacement.
Overall, the Raspberry Pi 5 is a great option for people who are looking for a low-cost, energy-efficient, and flexible computing device. However, it is important to keep in mind that it is not a replacement for a traditional desktop PC for all users.

Simple answer: No.
RPi's lost its original direction and it will be its downfall.
10 years ago Raspberry pi was amazing. Now comparing it to AsRock 4×4. They need to step up their game. Make pi do more
Problem with pi 5 is not the performance. Even pi 4 was good enough. Problem pi 5 to replace PC is the price. Even old laptops with same price as Pi 5 beats them.
It can't do 1080p 60?? Too weak
While it still beat the SD card I am curious what caused the usb drive to throttle down.
Can you edit 4k 60fps on it?
im a noob, played with a 3. sold and now got a new pi4 4gb to play an dlearn linux.. dont think i need the 5… but tempted but not sure
Any luck running emulation station with all the major emulators in it?
Do Android/LineageOS on it next!
Pleeeeeeaaaase!
Could you play old games at low resolution with this? ie Fallout 3 in 720p low visual settings.
Samsung has a new 512 gig microsd card that you can either get with a microsd to sd card adapter or a micro SD to USB 3 adapter that advertised 200 megabytes read speeds and 130 megabytes write speeds.
I'd love to see what this thing can do with a minimal suckless system. I can work on 4GB, but it'll scream with 8GB.
At this point just get a minipc. They are cheap and they have everything included. Like a shell to mount on a tv and a place to add a full SDD.
Try to test the video playing on a non-overclocked system. There are reports that frame dropping goes worse when overclocked. The RPi, even #5, has its memory connected via 32-bit bus and this is the performance limiter. This can also explain frame dropping when overclocked: CPU needs more memory bandwidth
I used RPi 400 as a desktop replacement in summer, when the big PC was overheating my room. The 400, when properly overclocked, was
nearenough to do simple everyday tasks (=browsing the net). If the RPi5 is really 2-3x faster than this, it would be enough. For heavy tasks I have a standard, big PC.8GB isn't enough for my workflow anymore. In fact, 16GB is pushing it, and the only reason why I don't have 32GB on my laptop is because my 16GB one was such a good deal.
still can't have 4K 60fps youtube playback in 2023 is a joke from RPi…..even buy a cheap chromebook can do something better than this
Most people do not use there pc in high demand services.
So, such power will be more then powerful enough for most things people do.
Many people would get by on such a low power computer to do what they need, and it would be perfect, and low cost in terms of energy usage.
Electricity is becoming so expensive in europe especially, do not know what it is like in usa.
Like i keep saying, ptb want people to stop building big energy hungry pcs, and in reality only a minority can afford to run a high powered gaming pc to play games for hours now, especially in europe.
So giving people choices on low energy demand computers is going to be a real thing for alot of people, as cutting down on energy use in terms of electricity in todays world will become more and more important.
Have no idea what electricity prices are like in usa, but here in europe, they have gone through the roof.
Its good that people are getting choices at these low energy level of computers now, and more and more people will have to go this way, as electircity prices will force them to draw down there energy use of electricity.
Most stuff most people do on a pc, can probably be done on such a thing as a pi5 now. 'Its only drawback is its not x86, but the market for making os for pi stuff is alot so people can choose that road, and they would be fine for most things.
Only people that need computers for high demand stuff need high power cpus, and high energy use graphics cards now.
Yep, there are choices at low energy computer level, and its good that this market is getting bigger, and more competition, as people are going to need to look at this market more, as more people will not be able to afford there electricity bill.
If you had a steam deck, and a pi5 or a thin client pc, you could fill most peoples needs in computers.
Bro my recalbox is broken it’s frozen on the leave game screen anyway I can fix it?
Can you please test if discord or slack, maybe zoom/teams runs well on this system? If yes, then this can be a great HO companion.
