Cisco Systems to lay off more than 4,000 workers in latest sign of tighter times in tech

Internet networking pioneer Cisco Systems, based in San Jose, is jettisoning more than 4,000 employees, joining the parade of technology companies in a trend that has helped boost their profits and stock prices while providing a sobering reminder of the job insecurity hanging over an industry increasingly embracing artificial intelligence.

The mass layoffs announced Wednesday in conjunction with Cisco’s latest quarterly results represent about 5% of its worldwide workforce of 84,900.

  • Biden's America, keep voting Blue, I'm sure it will get better

  • I bet it’s all the bs roles like DEI and marketing people who spend tons of time and resources planning a simple advertisement.

  • There is an entire generation of tech workers who are "spoiled" by never having before experienced the reality of job insecurity. Well, reality sometimes bites.

  • Were they locals or foreigners h1b Indian visa holder trying to get the green card lol 😂

  • This is completely normal and acceptable in the Bay Area. Pay no attention to this. Keep watching sportsball.

  • Did 21 years at Cisco, worked my tail off, got laid off 3 years ago at 57. Turned out to be a good thing. It wasn't without struggles, but through a lot of perseverance, I landed new jobs that gave me new career and learning opportunities. Frustrated Cisco didn't partner with me to grow my career? Absolutely. Miss Cisco,? Nope, not all.

  • Trimming the fat. Wait about 3 to 5 years when AI really is up and 🏃‍♀️.

  • BIDENOMICS IS GREAT AIN'T IT !!!???

I don't feel sorry one bit for all you fools that voted for Branden, now you're getting what you voted for

  • “Job loss” is the same as job relocation overseas 😂

  • Time to sweat for your money haha build houses yes wear gloves

  • I'll still highly respect whoever that has a CCIE certification

  • There's a reason why there's a saying in the industry that cisco is where companies go to die…

  • Keep voting for liberals. They lie, cheat, and take bribes from anyone with enough money, but the average person continues to get screwed. Just ask the libs in Congress how much of your hard earned tax money is actually going to people in the U.S. from this latest bill. That's all you need to know.
