Creating a File Server and Sharing Drives in Windows Server 2019

This video is a follow along guide for Creating a File server in Microsoft Windows Server 2019 and it is the same function in the previous versions.

I will Install Windows in Hyper-V Followed by setting up the partitions and Formatting the Partitions.

I Then create folders and show how to set the permissions for shared drives eg. Between Workers and Managers, Create the users in Active Directory, assign them to security groups.

Following this steps back into a previous video of Mapping Shared drives through Group Policy and then mapping Home Drives in Active Directory.

Then I tested to ensure the mapped drives were created. Hopefully this helps someone! Sorry if i am to fast in my videos, I tend to just start clicking away like I would at work. Feel free to pause the video while you set your own up 🙂

Cheers

  • When saving a new MS Office file or a file in a new location, and browsing for the location then the user is unable to save the MS Office file. A popup dialog box shows "Access Denied. Contact your administrator".

There is no permissions issue, as other non MS Office files can be opened, modified and saved in the same location.

  • Going through a nightmare at work atm, we use shared folders, I cant locate where the folders are, I believe they are somewhere on our dedicated server, but no idea how to access their host. But they are about to be full! only 4gb of space left… trying to get on it and figure out if and how I can expand the storage limit, or add another drive to increase its capacity…

  • Which computer 🖥 are you using. I can’t even run a single win2008r2 server using VM Ware through my dual core processor supported with 4GB RAM. This hangs a lot. But you are running 3 VM smoothly. How??

  • Waooo it's really informative. Thanks buddy for sharing this 👍👍

  • Hello! Why do you create those two sec groups? As far as I can see, you leave them empty. The workers and managers go into OUs.

  • Thanks a lot, helps me in my education project.

  • This can be used online? I'm gonna do something like this in a few months, but I need to change sharepoint for this.
