Cyber safety in Nigeria 2021
A non-governmental organzaition, Cybersafe Foundation has partnered with the Committee of Chief Information Security Officers of the Nigeria Financial Industry (CCISONFI) to launch the Financial Industry Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign. The launch took place in July 2021 at the Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria. Stakeholders from the media and financial sectors were in attendance at the launch.
The campaign aptly called #Nogofallmaga, endorsed by Central Bank of Nigeria is to enlighten the public on Cyber fraud. To flag off the campaign, Executive Director of Cybersafe Foundation, Confidence Staveley stated that the collaboration would enable an aggressive cybersecurity awareness campaign to complement other proactive measures to help improve cyber safety for Nigerians.
The Director, Banking Supervision Department at CBN, Mr. Haruna Mustafa, represented by Deputy Director, Banking Supervision, Adedeji Adetona Sikiru, disclosed that CBN is taking precise measures to ensure reduction of cyber fraud. One of such measures include the issuance of the CBN Risk-Based Cybersecurity Framework and Guidelines for Deposit Money Banks in 2018. According to him, CBN is willing to partner with industry stakeholders to further enlighten the public on Cybersecurity practices with the aim to create a cyber-resilient environment.
