I still need to review it properly. Track pad is horrible but seems to be good otherwise.

  • I use NEPTUNE 8, based on DEBIAN 12– and focused on FLATPAKS..and light weight speed.. beautiful, quick and easy. I also still use SPARKY – also based on DEbian.. BOTH rock stable and faster than arch..and easier to use.

  • Ya, right, I downloaded Debian to try on my VM. It took several hours to load up, and then the audio part would not work right. I also tried Zorin OS and had no trouble at all. Also, you cannot get help with Debian but you can with the Zorin Community. So, which do you thin people want to use?

  • the recent debian hype got me to try installing it again.
first impressions: It is still the only distro where I have to download wifi drivers and put them on another usb stick during install.
Also the only distro I've tried where sound doesn't work out of the box.
It feels extremely barebone and empty.
But it loads up fast and it revived a machine that Manjaro had previously killed.
So I am torn if I like it or not.

  • I just installed it and added MX repositories which are higly compatible and is really fun to have all what I need.

  • Very nice review! I like Debian 12 except for one thing – the default wallpaper(s). How hard would it be for the Debian team to include say six really stunning wallpapers? Maybe all nature or landscape wallpapers. The default wallpapers all look like something from about 1998!

  • Debian was crashed after comp repair. Just grub > … (Fedora or Manjaro on board working well). Testing 12 Debian again… Debain is good, but i steel wait for crashes…

  • Debian is best supreme distro I use as my default at work and at home also gnome-looks make more better look 👍🤩

  • How to enable Nautilus drag and drop feature in this version of Debian?, Does not work with xorg or wayland

  • At first I try to install in VM for fun. After some tries I start loving to use it. Now it is on my main system. I hope I can stay longer this time. Previously coming back to Windows because I need to spend too much time to fix on minor issues which are trival to Windows.

  • I'm an embedded software dev and have been using linux for work(not by choice) for many years. I don't know…everytime I set my heart to try out debian(thinking it would be simple and clean without the ubuntu snap crap), I ran into countless issues even at the install and first time setup stage. For example missing wifi/GPU driver(debian 11), no sudo support after fresh install(debian 12)…seriously wtf? First I was told I am not in the sudoer list, then I googled how to add myself to sudo list, and all the command I saw on google does not exist. Finally I had to go to the sbin folder to use a command to add my user name to sudoer. IDK. If some one like me find it a pain in the @ss to use it, how would regular person who is used to windows and mac can possibly use it. It just seems extremely not user friendly and I don't think I will ever touch it again.

  • Debian and Ubuntu are the backbone of about 70% of distros !

    Debian runs the internet…

  • I run Debian 12 minimal with Sway on a T420 I stuck an Ivybridge in and core booted, and I haven't turned my PC on in months.

Now trying to find an equally minimal-but-fully-functional setup for mobile.

  • we dont call debian distro. its mother of this type. allthat based on debian and all based on those are distros. same as theme

  • 4:35 side dock is objectively the best dock. I even go one step further and move the window buttons to the left as well. Having a "dominant" side of the screen is a good idea, and it's something only Ubuntu and Apple seem to get right.

  • Debian 12 really knocked it out of the park! I have been using it for 2 days now. It seems pretty solid.

  • I love the idea of Debian. You get tons of programs for free, that are extremely well tested and should work fine for a very long time. Stability is the number one thing for lots of people. It is especially important for those of us that just want a cheap PC for a tiny business, it means we do not need to worry about any updates breaking things. The thing works, and keeps working.

  • I want to use it but it won't let me enable bluetooth.
