I switched to Wayland a couple of months ago. Apart from not re-spawning programs in the event of a crash (which is being worked on) I'd say it's about there, at least for my use-case. No more V-sync issues!
Still I don't understanding why Nvidia is not open on the open source their drivers…this is very weird and stupid, and I understand that they have many patents and more but to be honest…other companies have the same thing and they gave a open source drivers, not proprietary….
Steam deck is huge for linux gaming.
I just finished reorganizing my gaming prefixes today and I have 3 and it's done. One is for modern games that don't really need anything other than good DX11/12 support for the most part. The other two are for old games, ones that benefit from using a virtual desktop (I guess I could tune all of this per-exe but anyway) because switching windows can break it (which is funny because it's only easily solved on LInux, not Windows). I have two different prefixes because I found out that some games have no sound without directmusic set up (Bottles/winetricks) and some games have double/chopped sound with it…
It seems that Nvidia has finally caught on the news that everyone's dumping X11… They should've gotten on the Wayland train earlier honestly, but Nvidia being Nvidia, such a shame.
X11 is done….
Hey Nick, i miss your goodbye gesture at the end of the video. Traditions should be kept. 😉🫡
Surtout, j'ai maintenant six arbres de moins dans mon jardin…
X11 should be named "Die hard"!
I want texedo laptops for India
Hi Nick, I like the form, but after a couple of years I feel tired of voice narration. Can you add some new person to your show? Or at least employ some other lector, I like you, but I slowly feel tired of you voice.
I am now in Arch Linux, btw.
The fact that War Thunder's engine is now open-source is very big news. It runs surprisingly well on older hardware already, and now this may lead to some significant performance improvements and a native Linux port. In the long term, we may see a FOSS game using this engine being developed. Of course, this is in the very long term and also depends on the licensing of different components,
First time gaming on Linux was like
"I pressed ALT-Tab and nothing exploded? 😲"
Amazing video as always!
EDID is fucking stupid. Its not a feature, its there only to restrict. When its badly implemented you lose output features. When you don't use it, you can output whatever the fuck you want, and if the monitor supports it, it will work.
🙂
I don't know why wayland is pushed forcefully when the devs are saying it's not ready for production usages…. !!😡
Sorry Nick that should have been Linux Mint 21.2.

Hi Nick can you advise me. I have a Lenovo AMD E2 7th gen laptop.
If I install Linux Mint 20.2 all works fine until I install the latest Kernel.
Then it will not boot to desktop so I can not even revert to previous kernel.
