[Fix] Stuck at checking for updates on Windows 7

If you’ve installed fresh Windows 7 with service pack 1 and going update the system with Windows update, you may get stuck at checking for updates step unusually long time. This could be an issue of Windows update service. To fix the issue, you have to manually install some patch from Microsoft.

In this video, I will show how to fix problem when you stuck at checking for updates on Windows update on Windows 7.

1. Determine if your Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit.
2. Download KB3020369
– For 32-bit, https://download.microsoft.com/download/C/0/8/C0823F43-BFE9-4147-9B0A-35769CBBE6B0/Windows6.1-KB3020369-x86.msu
– For 64-bit, https://download.microsoft.com/download/5/D/0/5D0821EB-A92D-4CA2-9020-EC41D56B074F/Windows6.1-KB3020369-x64.msu
3. Download KB3172605
– For 32-bit, https://download.microsoft.com/download/C/D/5/CD5DE7B2-E857-4BD4-AA9C-6B30C3E1735A/Windows6.1-KB3172605-x86.msu
– For 64-bit, https://download.microsoft.com/download/5/6/0/560504D4-F91A-4DEB-867F-C713F7821374/Windows6.1-KB3172605-x64.msu
4. Open Windows Update.
5. Modify “Important updates” in “Change Settings” menu to “Never check for updates”
6. Restart your system.
7. Install KB3020369 and KB3172605 respectively.
8. Restart your system again.
9. Open Windows Update and modify “Important updates” in “Change Settings” menu to “Install updates automatically” (or any option you want).
10. Check for updates again.

  • PLEASE HELP !! It says "your computer is not elegible for the instalation". I just reinstaled windows 7 and all has been a problem, cannot install video drivers, nvidia driver fails, windows update doesn't work… i dont know what to do T_T

  • u know what,i just reformatting my window 7 64bit sp1 , my computer take too long to check update,i got avastfree running on my computer even i disable it still update not work,i decide to uninstall it and after avast successfully removed, my window update working just fine,now i must waiting 1.6gb update now

    This still hasnt worked for me. It is still stuck at checking for updates after following every instruction youve said. I have been sat for 15 minutes waiting for the updates to come through.
