FIX Video TDR Failure Blue Screen (atikmpag.sys) On Windows 7/8/10

How to fix blue screen of death video tdr failure atikmpag.sys.FIX: VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE

If you’re using AMD or ATI graphics card, and you’re seeing a VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE blue screen error, you’re not alone. Many Windows users have reported to have seen it before. Some of you might see atikmpag.sys instead of atikmdag.sys in the parenthesis after Video_TDR_Failure error, but these two are not much different from each other.

TDR stands for Timeout, Detection, and Recovery components in Windows. It’s supposed to be there to help stop BSODs by resetting the GPU and/or driver when there’s an issue of long delay. If problems happen too many times in a row, a blue screen occurs.

This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7 operating systems.Works for all major computer manufactures (Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, Samsung).

  • What is when the computer aka laptop do not start and remember to restart

  • It's definitely a Motherboard problem. I can vouch for it. I fixed mine by tweaking MoBo. If you read the event viewer for BSOD it implies not enough voltage is distributed to the RAM and CPU.
No need for the CMD. Just Uninstall the graphics software, then flash your MoBo with update, then reinstall chipset, then install the graphics software. Then restart. Then tweak your MoBo's voltage higher a lil bit. Then restart. Redo until you reach the sweet spot for your MoBo.

  • I think I fixed mine by updating Flash player, would flake out daily with the atikmpag.sys code but fine now for the last month.
None of the other fixes worked.

  • most of the times on old laptops gpu overheats and dies, there is no way to fix it with software, only option is to disable gpu or replace it/reball it.

  • Depending on how fast your pc starts, quickly access control panel, device manager find Display adapters, click to drop down and disable it. From there you can chose to uninstall it or do whatever. Check delete driver to completely stop the crashing. This works even if your pc hasn't completely started.

  • All my drivers are up to date. My laptop runs switchable graphics, onboard Intel graphics and a Radeon 7730M. When I enable the 7730M I get a flickering screen and then the TDR blue screen. PC works fine with the 7730M disabled but obviously not very good for games. Just recently bought a new HDD and done a clean install of windows
