FIX Windows 10 Slow Shutdown (2020)
Is your Windows 10 PC taking several minutes before it shuts down? Don’t worry, I’ve prepared some possible fixes for you!
METHOD 1 – DISABLING THE FAST STARTUP
The fast startup can help in reducing the time while the shutdown process and making faster. To disable this option in Windows 10:
1. On your keyboard, press ‘Windows key + R’ and type ‘powercfg.cpl’ in it.
Hit the ‘Enter’ key to open power options in the control panel.
From the left-hand side, click on ‘Choose what the power buttons do’.
2. Then, click on the link ‘Change settings that are currently unavailable’.
3. From the bottom given power button options, uncheck the ‘Turn on fast startup’ option.
4. Click on ‘Save changes’ button.
METHOD 2 – RUNNING POWER TROUBLESHOOTER
The power timeout settings can affect your PC on various levels and the shutdown process is one of them. This checks how long the PC waits before turning off the display and to enter in sleep mode. Troubleshooting can help in fixing this slow shutdown issue. Most people find this step the easiest and fast working for them.
To troubleshoot power settings:
1. Press ‘Win + I’ shortcut keys to open Windows Settings app.
2. Click on ‘Update & Security’, then go to the ‘Troubleshoot’ section from the left-side menu.
3. Scroll downwards a bit and click on the ‘Power’ option.
4. Click on ‘Run the Troubleshooter’. It will start detecting the problems and if it founds, go ahead fixing it.
METHOD 3 – CREATING A SHUTDOWN SHORTCUT
Create a shutdown shortcut that will immediately shut down your PC.
1. Right-click on your Desktop, select New Shortcut.
2. Type (or paste) this: Shutdown.exe -s -t 00
3. You can also choose some nice shutdown icon for the newly created shortcut.
METHOD 4 – REGISTRY TWEAKS
1. Run the REGEDIT
2. Browse the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControl
3. Ensure you have selection box over ‘Control’ in the left pane then seek for ‘WaitToKillServiceTimeout’ in the right pane of the Registry Editor window.
4. Set its value between 1000 to 20000 which indicates a range of 1 to 20 seconds respectively.
5. Next, go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession ManagerMemory Management
6. Click on the ‘ClearPageFileAtShutdown’ and set its value data to 0.
7. Now, browse the following path: HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktop
8. Create 2 REG_SZ (String value) keys:
‘HungAppTimeout’ & ‘WaitToKillAppTimeout’
9. In the value data field, decrease the value but the minimum should be “1000” ms.
10. Restart your system.
METHOD 5 – RUNNING SFC /SCANNOW COMMAND
1. Run Command Prompt as an Administrator
2. Type the following command: SFC /SCANNOW
3. Once the SFC scan finishes, restart your PC.
METHOD 6 – CHECKING YOUR DISK
1. 1. Run Command Prompt as an Administrator
2. Type the following command: CHKDSK C:/F
3. Once the process completes, restart your PC.
METHOD 7 – RUNNING DISM COMMANDS
1. Run Command Prompt as an Administrator
2. Type the following command: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
3. Wait for the DISM to repair successfully and then restart your PC.
METHOD 8 – RESETTING YOUR POWER PLAN
Resetting your power plan can be helpful in fixing that current issue. If you have been using a customized power plan then try resetting it once. To reset the power plan in Windows 10:
1. Go to the ‘Start’ menu and type ‘Control panel’ then hit the ENTER key.
2. From the top-right filter, choose ‘Large icons’ and navigate to the ‘Power Options’,
3. Click and open the ‘Power options’.
4. Select your current power plan or the plan, according to your requirement and then click on ‘Change plan settings’.
5. Click on ‘Change advanced power settings’.
6. In the power options windows, click on the button ‘Restore plan defaults’.
7. Click on ‘Apply’ and then ‘OK’ button.
OTHER POINTS TO CHECK:
○ Make sure there are no devices connected. Disconnect them first, then, try shutting down your PC.
○ Make sure there are no running programs in your computer. Close them first before shutting the PC down.

Although I may need to turn on the clear page file at shutdown to prevent corruption of data.
Simple: Upgrade to Windows 7/8.1
This didn't work for me because those additional options do not appear on this computer

Thanks, for me in the end was just the SD card that i've left inside the pc and that was causing the problem in delaying the shutting down of the pc.
