Focusing on the Developer and Partnering with the Linux Foundation Helps Delta Lake to Build a Flourishing Community – Denny Lee, Databricks & Carly Akerly, Linux Foundation
In this session, we will discuss the key tenets of how to build and grow a technical community. For example, Delta Lake LinkedIn went from zero to almost 20,000 followers in less than a year by finding the delicate balance of technical and marketing community engagement. – It’s all about the developer: It is crucial to understand users and contributors to your community are taking a career bet on your community. – Branding for thee before branding for me: The job of a developer advocate is to help community members build their brand which in turn is the foundation of developing the advocate’s own brand. – Understanding its many diverse individuals working together: Long-running open-source projects have former competitors become colleagues and vice versa. We’re all working together as a team across time zones, borders, and companies. – When To Manage, What To Manage: With so much focus on the developer, how do you do things like social, marketing, and events? Partnering with the LF allows you to the many other important non-technical aspects that are just important to growing your community. We will also discuss the metrics and OKRs we use to better understand the community and how we can improve both our global outreach and individual collaborations.
