GNOME bans Manjaro Core Team Member for uttering "Lunduke"

The GNOME team has censored — and deleted the account — of the maintainer of Manjaro Linux GNOME Edition. Why? Because he linked to a Lunduke article.

  • I felt bad that I didn't like gnome at all, now i feel proud

  • While I do not always agree with your takes, in your articles you always do list sources and are factually true even if you do have biases.

  • 08:48 They should keep the filter and just changed the replacement text with Voldemort xD

  • The very forests of Lordaeron whispered the name "Lunduke"….. Gnome Shaman is OP

  • Linux software is easy to interpret as a Socialist project by its distributed, open-source nature. This is the type of social norm enforcement that occurs within Socialist movements and also in Communist governments. It's called a Struggle Session when someone is pressured and bullied by members of their own social group to reject another member who has been targeted for cancellation. (The secrecy of the Gnome project is also very much like the secrecy of the Chinese government; the Party must always be seen as having absolute control.) Open-source software promotes the idea that no one individual or company should own or control software as private property. (Its centralized control is also effectively the same as ownership, but whatever.) It is not surprising that the ethos of open-source software has attracted those who are at war – in their own minds – with closed source software, because it represents the influence of capitalism as Marx defined it, which is simply the ownership of private property. I like open source software because it is free, convenient, and cooperative, not because it is trying to liberate property from individuals or corporations that own it. Liberating the relevant private property would be stealing the code or content of other software, while FOSS aims instead to provide alternative functionality without being under the thumb of centralized control, and that is more appealing to the libertarian. FOSS also aims to compete directly with closed source software. Leftism wants FOSS to see itself as being at war with Microsoft, Apple, or other Big Tech players; Libertarianism wants FOSS to see itself as competing more effectively with Big Tech.

  • It's a truism at this point: "If you think they haven't gone full Commie yet — it's only because they haven't been caught yet. Just Wait."

  • I'm looking forward to the new GNOME fork – codename "Lunduke"

  • That´s one of the reasons linux has it almost imposible to beat comercial OS's. Since Linux is not a bussiness and is mantained by people working spare time for free, these diva dramas occur. Devs work in feelings instead of bussiness need. And if everyone is a "boss" things scalate and ends like this. There is not "stop crying and do your job" scold from the upper echelons.

  • I never liked GNOME. Glad to see my instincts were correct. KDE always made much more sense to me… though these days I don't even go that route anymore — i've gone more minimal. Less projects, less people to depend on, because they will inevitably disappoint or betray me!

  • I've never heard of you before now, but my impressions from this video alone are that you're pretty self-obsessed to be honest . I would've liked to hear more about what actually happened and less of the aimless bragging.

  • Lunduke you should sue those people, make use of the ADL, this abuse has to stop. Sue that guy Daimar Stein for defamation

  • OSS has been full of arrogant woke losers pushing everyone else out for more than a decade, now. OSS has been full of egotistical, narcissistic, big kings of little hills for far longer. I'm glad that I don't use a desktop manager. No GNOME, no KDE, no XFCE. For thirty years, I've used almost exclusively Debian, Bash, screen/tmux, and vim. I've had the benefit of both working in the corporate proprietary world and the OSS/Linux world simultaneously (Netscape, Sun Microsystems, Oracle — but developing our secure linux for fifteen years) and while I've always been an F/OSS advocate, the behavior of so much of the sphere is borderline tipping me over to becoming a proprietary proponent.

  • Sounds like they're afraid of what you have to say.

  • In all seriousness, it is pretty concerning for projects that are open and transparent to act this way. IMO it actually defeats the entire point of OSS. I wouldn't be opposed to legislation aimed at fixing these problems.

  • clearly im not installing GNOME again 🙂 I would say it hurts more then just their relationship with a Linux distribution …

  • Watching your video from manjaro xfce and sir you've got a new subscriber. I love to see things from two different aspects. Maybe I'll read blogs from others and also from you. Thanks.

  • Gnome team sounds like a bunch of butt hurt pansy's

  • Thank you for the video. Just wondering, since I've come over to Linux (a month ago) I've been hearing drama with KDE vs Hyprland, and now Gnome. Is there a Windows Manager/Tiling Manager that has honest core values?

  • GNOME has been removed entirely out of my stack.

What is a based WM that isn't tiling for general purpose compute in offices?

  • Microsoft is a POS corp. Linux communities are fascist breeding grounds. Apple is a knowitall smotherer.

Is this how new linux distros are born?

  • Free publicity. I haven't checked your stuff in years but now I'm here.

  • I have no idea what is going on and I just started this video but let me guess. Transformers have taken over this project also?

  • I don't use Linux much, but the next distro I install will not have a 'code of conduct' or a 'DEI statement' anywhere on their website.

  • Why do I keep clicking on your videos… Maybe it was about the Piers story and not “Lunduke”?

  • The only way this project will survive is if the whole board resigns. This project board became a political party. It is ridiculous this is being allowed

  • Maybe it was the CEO kicking the dog (commenter) on the way out. GNOME Foundation announced it on July 12th, Holly Million CEO, She's Gone. Probably following the backlash from Lunduke's coverage of her and the board of directors. That article that the commenter linked to was probably a sore spot and she figured she would take him out with her.

  • Not sure why they hate you. Maybe they're hating on you because they're jealous of your mustache because they can't even begin to grow one.
