Google gives $1M to make RUST work with C++

Google just made an announcement that it will invest $1M ($1000000) to the Rust Foundation to better the interoperability between the Rust and C++ programming languages. This is a major deal for open source projects.

  • That will actually be good for C++ Engineers wanting a job.
1 – a good C++ programmer would understand the codebase, so that he/she can port it, modify, etc…
2 – who else could pick up Rust the fastest, if not a C++ SW Engineer?

A Rust-only Dev would probably not be proficient enough in C++ to even touch the C++ codebase, so, he/she would always need someone telling him/her what to code.
Not a great deal, in my opinion.

  • 😢 open source decentralised now nsa paid backdoor programmimg language . Coming crypto currency will be tracked now.

  • Have they already abandoned the Carbon project? I thought that was the point of the new language.

  • Seems weird considering they're making the Carbon language since the entire purpose for it is C++ interoperability. I wonder if they plan on using all 3 languages in their code bases

  • And who takes the money ? So, AT&T C++ is loosing now ?

  • More than 20% of all new code written for Android is in Rust, as part of their commitment to resolving the 70% of vulnerabilities being directly caused by memory safety issues in all C++ code they write. So this is a continuation of their effort to replace C and C++ with memory safe languages.

  • I think every programming language should be able to steal from every other language.
    Are there conversion utilities?
