Home Sharing could not be activated, Error 5507 in Windows 10

Apple offers a Home Sharing feature through iTunes. It allows you to share, stream, and import media from up to five computers that are connected to your home Wi-Fi network. The option is available through File > Home Sharing > Turn on Home Sharing on iTunes. It may so happen that when you do that, an error shows up which says—Home Sharing could not be activated, Error 5507. It is particular to Windows 10, and this post will guide you on how you can fix the problem.

The error is easy to resolve, and it needs verification from another Apple device. If you have enabled 2FA on your account, it will have to be authenticated. However, make sure your iTunes is updated to the latest version.

  • Log into iTunes using your Apple ID and password.
  • Got to File > Home Sharing > Turn on Home Sharing
  • If the box shows up with a 5507 error, then you need to wait until the 6 digit access code pops up on your Apple device
  • Reenter your Apple ID and password with the 6 digit code, and it should fix the problem.

I had a similar problem with few other devices which needed verification, and it happened because I had 2FA enabled for my account. Those codes show up on an Apple device only, and hence you need to make your iPhone or iPad, or Macbook is close by.

If this doesn’t work, I suggest you log out of iTunes and then try to enable Home-sharing. You will be prompted to enter the account credentials, along with the option to authorize the computer again. Take a look at your Apple device, and check if there is a code; enter it. This should make it work.

I hope the post helped you resolve the problem.
