How Apple JUST Ruined the M4 iPad Pro with iPadOS 18..

Apple’s iPadOS18 software update is by far the most dissapointing update in years, especially seeing all of the other innovations for iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia. Here are my thoughts..

  • never been so disappointed as an ipad pro m1 user. like you said, this was the final nail in the coffin. this was literally the one last moment for apple to finally address all the complaints about ipad pro, and they responded with the biggest gas lighting middle finger. I cannot think of any other product with such wasted hardware.

  • Definitely just going to stick with a Galaxy Tab. The fastest iPad hardware in the world doesn't mean anything if the software literally doesn't exist to provide functionality that the Galaxy Tab already has. A slower function will always be better than no function.

  • EU being able to pressure Apple into supporting installing other app stores and sideloading, along with Usb C. Maybe a similar campaign can be organized in the states? This is obviously a case where Apple needs more aggressive feedback.

  • Trouble with Apple is the moniker they use to describe certain iPads and iPhones that being "Pro", words have meaning; perhaps Apple should drop the word Pro from their iPad and iPhone lineup else its misrepresentation.

  • Yup, the only thing actually great about the new version is the screen. So great for using outdoors.

M2 update changed pretty much nothing and I just hate my miniled with its crappy bloom on blacks.

  • Eh its okay the hardware is super pretty, i had an m1 12.9 and upgraded to m4 13. M1 was super heavy in one hand. M4 with a magic keyboard is an amazing package. The only thing i kinda miss is the pounding speakers on m1 12.9. I find oleds slightly yellow on the whites, but it is brighter overall. I kind of wanted to because i couldn't add my m1 to house insurance policy because it was used. M4 i added coz bought it new. And i basically sold my m1 for only 100 less than i bought it for 14 months ago, low depreciation.

  • You are 100% correct. I waited for the WWDC announcement for iPadOS, but what a disappointment that they miscalculated, not wishing to damage MacBook sales. After 10 years I have just now ordered and Surface Pro 11 to replace my pre M1 iPad Pro 12,9 inch because of file management, being able to use Pro Apps, proper Lightroom, Davinci Resolve and others. Whilst travelling the file management to iCloud is a nightmare. To Tim, I warmly say that my choice was similar to why I migrated to Apple, but now I find it going Microsoft direction, and this comes from someone who wanted 1,000 nits screen and likes the ecosystem but not enough to miss the basics.

  • Just wait a while for a jailbreak by staying on the lowest IOS you can and tweak it to your liking 🤷‍♂️

  • Apple's greed may eventually backfire. You don't bite the hand that feeds you.

  • You all are being dramatic.
The iPad M4 totally delivers to realistic expectations.

But there is a major issue with the iOS18 Beta software right now that I would suggest not upgrading your M4 iPad without having access to a PC that can reverse upgrade it back to iOS17.
There is currently a bug that some Magic keyboard folios will randomly stop working on the beta software making the keyboard useless. Reversing to iOS17 returns the keyboard to normal.

  • So basically all you want is to turn the iPad into a MacBook… Apple already said NO couple years ago.

  • Sadly Apple change the language for the public calling multitasking to the ability of the USER to watch and interact with multiple tasks at the "same time", however that's just a lie. Multitasking is not the ability of the USER, it is the ability of the SYSTEM or COMPUTER DEVICE, and that is what is not real in this machine. If you delegate a task to the background, it will stop running. But what about a music app or youtube that don''t need to be in the foreground to work… well those are exceptions made to the iPadOS to handle specifically those tasks, but that's not available to the rest of the tasks. When you create an app you tell the OS that you gonna handle audio in the background, however your code is freeze, but the OS handles the music stream for you. However, those limitations are not natural to iPadOS, because as all the Apple OSes the underground operating system is Darwin, which is a flavor of Unix that as all Unix machines do real multitasking without problem. So what happened? First of all the graphical user interface and the APIs under it limit the ability of the Apps to not multitask when they are not visible (even in less memory iPads some apps in the foreground freezes when you have 3 of them at a glance). Why Apple do that? Because the iPadOS comes from iOS and both of them put the fast interaction up front as the most important objetive, so in order to react instantaneously to the user interaction, you cannot put part of the App in the virtual memory (when you run out of memory, the OS freeze running apps and save their state in the disk) because it makes the system feel slow to react when memory is not enough. MacOS enables this, that's why it don't react as fast as you need when you have too many apps running at the same time. So, to avoid slow reactions from the OS, iPad OS stops background tasks when you are not seeing them, and when memory is not enough it stop them saving the state of them to the disks (which is different from virtual memory where all the app is saved to the disk), so when you switch to them again the app start running and if there is an state saved to the disk it come back where you left it…. but during all the time the app was not running, so, not real multitasking.

  • Done by design. They still have M3 macbooks to sell. Next year when the macbooks get M4, u will get ur big Ipad OS update

  • I have my own theory about this, and maybe I’m not too far off. I think Apple released the iPad Pro with the M4 and this crappy iPadOS 18 just to push a ton of refurbished iPad Pro M1 and M2 models and to sell even more iPad 10s and MacBook Airs. Basically, I think this iPad Pro M4 is the obvious ‘sacrificial’ product that a company puts out just to sell other stuff in their lineup.

  • I absolutely agree with you. Apple is mocking us and fanboys are just blindly applauding it. That’s coming from someone who all tech is Apple. I’m just not spending a cent on an iPad anymore.

  • Can anyone delete ipados and download windows instead 😂

  • 🤣… what about? What about? What about? …🤣I'm waiting to use the apple pencil on the iPhone. That's is what I want.
