OPERATING SYSTEMSOS Linux

How can Linux save us time and money, and by the way, what is Linux?

*** A gentle introduction to Linux ***
When we think about computers, typically Microsoft Windows or Apple MacBooks come to our mind.
But in many instances, Linux is a better alternative to Windows and Mac.

Linux is very good for online learning and teaching, for programming, and for general everyday use.

In this video, you will see what is Linux and how can Linux help students, teachers, and everyone by providing a zero cost and trouble free operating system.

Other topics covered in this video:

– What is Linux,
– What are the different elements or pieces of a Linux distribution (“distro” for short),
– Which Linux distro is good for beginners.

*** Tips and Tricks ***

– The typical use case for installing Linux is you already have a computer with Windows or macOS and not happy with it.
Linux will work fine on almost all types of computers.
I had trouble installing it on a MacBook Pro 2019 model, because Linux does not have the device drivers for the newest Apple computers.
But if you have an older MacBook Air, you should have no problem installing Linux on it.

– Another use case is you want to install Linux alongside Windows Operating System on the same computer.
Installing two operating systems on the same computer is called “dual boot”.
You will find plenty of tutorials and videos on the internet on this topic.
I have installed both MX Linux and Ubuntu on several computers along with Windows.
Therefore, do not be afraid to make your computer dual boot with Linux and Windows.
