How to barbecue fish (without a BBQ!) | Sailing & Cooking | Discover Sabah, Borneo Ep 271

You’ve had some luck and caught a tasty fish, in our case a Spanish mackerel. The weather is far too bad for a barbecue, but you want that BBQ flavour. So Liz came up with a method that really works. Follow along and print the recipe below…

  • Looks Delicious! Been following your videos since 2017 and appreciate your amazing work!

  • How can one not smile when you see Liz’s big smile every time she gets a fish on! Excellent. Good for you.

  • At 4:47 😂😂😂😂" gotta be careful with these fisherman…they seem to over exaggerate " 😂😂😂😂. Jamie u need to stop!!

Allow Liz to be "great" ❤️😉😇 (the new lingo in 2021)

  • Thank you for sharing your catch and cook routine onboard. So very nice to be self sufficient in a way. Batang or Spanish Mackerel is one of my favourite fish which I do not need to struggle with small bones. My most favourite way to cook it is simply wash, dry and coat generously with turmeric powder and fry in shallow oil. Arrange fish on serving plate and top it with a simple concoction made up of a big red onion thinly sliced into a mixture of the frying fish oil, black soya sauce and calamansi juice. Yummy!

  • Great recipe, will adopt this one! Keep the video's coming, a thumbs up from me.

  • You have encouraged me to get into fishing. Thanks Liz! I know have a fishing rod on the one boat and soon, I will be cooking fish thanks to you too! Fair winds!

  • The quality of this production and your acting is on par with a BBC TV production 😉 ……

  • I discovered you guys one week ago. I could watch you for hours. You are such genuine, beautiful ( and I mean in ALL ways, as you are both beautiful inside and outside) and calming, not to mention the mind blowingly beautiful shots that you show in your videos. You seem like genuinely the happiest people on the planet. Not to mention how genuine and immense your love for each other feels. One day I want to meet you and hug you. Greetings from California!

  • Thank you for the video, always nice to get tips and trix 🙂

I do wonder why you never see any fan with filter above the stove on sailboats? Isn’t it a problem with getting oz from cooking?

  • Well done Lizzie…. Spot on with the Rapala or zo zuri diver lure…. Not sure about Spanish Mackerel though… if it was in the Caribbean it would definitely be a Whahoo !!!

  • Spooky, the clippie thing for the marinade bag went in the fridge green then came out orange.

  • Thank you for sharing your lovely life
    Cheers

  • Looks absolutely lovely. We sometimes use liquid smoke for a good BBQ taste but it can be hard to get hold of.

  • I guess I never noticed your cook top before. Is that electric? How long have you had an electric stove?

  • Knowing that we are most likely to receive your responses to comments makes all the difference. Thank you for taking the time, and making the effort to do that.

  • Notes taken!! And, thanks for the recipe. Hope mine turns out so well.
    thumbed

  • I would love to see more of your fishing and cooking! Did you filet the mackerel? I couldn't tell. If not, does it have a lot of bones? I would love to see how you filet your catches in future videos.

  • Can you please make a video regarding the language barriers? Not everyone speaks English and the ones they think they do might have a very heavy accent. This could be a problem especially on the vhf/radio and more importantly customs etc.
    Any tips on that?

  • My neighbor went 108 miles off San Diego and caught a Blue Fin Tuna California State record 400 pound or 25.58 stone as you Brits would say. This was 2 weeks ago, He caught a 258 pound and a 175 pound Blue Fin Tuna on the same trip. He uses a custom made 24 foot Catamaran with 2 outboards for better fuel efficiency. I ate sushi for days……

  • Thank you for another wonderful episode! Glad you could get away even if just for a short distance. Cheers!

  • Nice catch Liz and great recipe. Got me salivating. Right, time to plan what's for dinner. cheers.

  • Now we know why young Jamie is not about to blow away with a gust of wind…Liz's cooking looks to good to pass up.

  • Great job Liz. Those steaks looked awesome, the meat was so white. I've always filleted my mackerel, skin and bone off, but after watching this I'll try cutting at least one into steaks next time I bring some home.

  • 11:10 I wouId add just a IittIe bit of oIive oiI… and go for a dark brown. StiII Iooks very deIicious anyway. +1

  • Engagement? ENGAGEMENT???

    I do engagement…

    😀 😀 😀

BTW, that cockpit looked like a murder scene. What a bloody mess! Yay for a decent seawater washdown pump.
