How to Change the DHCP IP Address Range for VMware Workstation Virtual Machines

If you use VMware Workstation with the default network settings then it uses its own internal DHCP server service to assign IP addresses to your VMs. It will use a default range of addresses and your virtual machines will get an IP address from that range.

It is possible to change this range of addresses to a custom range of your choosing. You can also change the default lease time and max lease time as well.

Here is a writeup on the procedure.

  • Is it possible for VMware to have a different IP address from my actual PC?

  • Do you have to have the pro version to change these settings? I have the free version 16 and can't find where to change it.
