The Domain Name System (DNS) is a directory that translates domain names or hostnames into Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. If you encounter a DNS Server Not Responding message when accessing a website, it means that the DNS server failed to map hostnames to IP addresses correctly.

Here are six methods to solve the DNS Server Not Responding issue:

🟣 Troubleshoot Network Problems

The first step to fix this DNS error is running network diagnostics. This method helps to diagnose and troubleshoot all detected network issues and errors. In this tutorial, we share the steps to run network diagnostics using Windows and Mac computers.

🟣 Connect With a Different Device

Try using a different device to connect to the same home network and access the site that is showing the DNS Server Not Responding message. If the second device can access the web page using the same network, then the problem is with your primary device.

🟣 Switch to Another Web Browser

Another way to fix this DNS error is to visit the website from a different web browser. For example, try to access the web page using Google Chrome if you were using Mozilla Firefox. If the other browser does not show any error, update the initial browser to its newest version or reinstall it completely.

🟣 Restart Your Modem or Router

Consider restarting your modem or router to clear the cache. Wait for at least 30 seconds before turning it on again. If restarting your modem or router doesn’t work, try to reset it to its default settings.

🟣 Deactivate Antivirus and Firewall

Temporarily deactivate your antivirus and firewall programs to check if they are the reason behind this DNS error. After deactivating your antivirus and firewall programs, rerun the network diagnostics and reopen the website.

🟣 Disable Other Connections

Another solution to resolve the DNS Server Not Responding error is disabling unused connections on your device. After that, restart your browser and try accessing the website.
